Equipment manufactured by or for the Seller shall be free from defects in material and
workmanship, and shall conform to its published specifications. With respect to all non-Seller
Equipment, Seller gives no warranty, and only the warranty, if any, given by the manufacturer
shall apply. Rechargeable batteries are excluded from this warranty but are warranted under a
separate Rechargeable Battery Warranty (ECR-7048).
B. Seller’s obligations set forth in Paragraph C below shall apply only to failures to meet the above
warranties occurring within the following periods of time from date of sale to the Buyer and are
conditioned on Buyer’s giving written notice to Seller within thirty (30) days of such occurrence:
1. for fuses and non-rechargeable batteries, operable on arrival only.
2. for parts and accessories (except as noted in B.1 and B.5), ninety (90) days.
3. for mobile and portable radios (“Subscriber Units”), twenty-four (24) months.
4. for Unity® model Subscriber Units, thirty-six (36) months.
5. for Six-Bay battery Chargers (12082-0314-xx and CH-104570-xxx), one (1) year.
6. for all other equipment of Seller’s manufacture, one (1) year.
C. If any Equipment fails to meet the foregoing warranties, Seller shall correct the failure at its
option (i) by repairing any defective or damaged part or parts thereof, (ii) by making available at
Seller’s factory any necessary repaired or replacement parts, or (iii) by replacing the failed
Equipment with equivalent new or refurbished Equipment. Any repaired or replacement part
furnished hereunder shall be warranted for the remainder of the warranty period of the
Equipment in which it is installed. Where such failure cannot be corrected by Seller’s
reasonable efforts, the parties will negotiate an equitable adjustment in price. Labor to perform
warranty service will be provided at no charge during the warranty period only for the
Equipment covered under Paragraph B.3, B.4, and B.5. To be eligible for no-charge labor,
service must be performed at Seller’s factory, by an Authorized Service Center (ASC) or other
Servicer approved for these purposes either at its place of business during normal business

Service on fixed location equipment more than thirty (30) miles (48 km) from the Service Center
or other approved Servicer’s place of business will include a charge for transportation.
D. Seller’s obligations under Paragraph C shall not apply to any Equipment, or part thereof, which
(i) has been modified or otherwise altered other than pursuant to Seller’s written instructions or
written approval or, (ii) is normally consumed in operation or, (iii) has a normal life inherently
shorter than the warranty periods specified in Paragraph B, or (iv) is not properly stored,
installed, used, maintained or repaired, or, (v) has been subjected to any other kind of misuse
or detrimental exposure, or has been involved in an accident.
E. The preceding paragraphs set forth the exclusive remedies for claims based upon defects in or
nonconformity of the Equipment, whether the claim is in contract, warranty, tort (including

lieu of all other warranties, whether oral, written, expressed, implied or statutory. NO IMPLIED
OR STATUTORY WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY OR FITNESS FOR PARTICULAR
PURPOSE SHALL APPLY. IN NO EVENT SHALL THE SELLER BE LIABLE FOR ANY
INCIDENTAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, SPECIAL, INDIRECT OR EXEMPLARY DAMAGES.

TECHNICAL TRAINING
Technical training courses are conducted regularly at the Technical Training Centers in Lynchburg, Virginia, and Las Vegas,
Nevada. To register for courses conducted at the Technical Training Centers, contact the Training Registrar at
1-434-455-9469 or register online at our website at http://pspc.harris.com/Service/TechnicalTraining.asp. Training courses
can also be conducted at a customer’s location. Contact the Training Manager at 1-434-455-9454 for on-site training prices
and availability. Typically, two-to-three months’ lead time is required to schedule on-site training.
The List Prices provided are the tuition per student for regularly scheduled training at the Technical Training Centers.
Technical Training focuses on three job categories: administration, maintenance, and operation.
Administrative training provides management personnel with the knowledge and skills to plan and manage the radio
system.
Maintenance training prepares a technician to perform preventive and corrective maintenance on radio system
equipment.
Operational training is designed for field equipment users and dispatchers to facilitate the transition to a radio
system.
OPERATIONAL TRAINING
Operational training provides dispatch personnel and field equipment users with the knowledge and skills to operate their
dispatch consoles and radios, respectively. It also includes a course on radio programming.
Dispatch personnel are at the core of effective and efficient implementation of the radio system. While the time required for
training is minimal, the payback is immense. A solid understanding of both console and system operation is required to
effectively train dispatch personnel on the operation of a dispatch console. Therefore, our instructor conducts dispatch
console operational training directly for dispatchers and their supervisors. A train-the-trainer format is not recommended.
The importance of field equipment users understanding basic system operation and the operation of their portable and/or
mobile radios must not be underestimated. We offer two (2) options for providing user equipment operator training: train-
the-user and train-the-trainer.
Creating a radio personality through programming and configuring a radio that meets operational requirements and is user
friendly helps ensure effective communications.

RADIO MAINTENANCE CORE TRAINING
Radio maintenance core training provides a technician with a solid RF foundation that system and terminal product
maintenance training courses will build upon. This training is applicable to any trunked or conventional system configuration
and consists of three courses.
The following table provides a list of standard training courses. The table includes the course number, and the location where
the training can be conducted as indicated by the course length.
TECHNICAL TRAINING
PORTABLE AND MOBILE RADIO MAINTENANCE TRAINING
Bench technicians responsible for maintaining conventional and/or trunked portable and mobile radios should first complete
the RF Test & Troubleshooting (YTSP5U) course, which is part of the Radio Maintenance Core Training program, and then
attend applicable radio maintenance courses.
Radio maintenance courses are available on portable and mobile radios that utilize Open Mutimedia Application Platform
(OMAP) microprocessors. Radios that use OMAP microprocessors have common software and similar maintenance
procedures, which allows us to deliver training on portable families of radios in one course and mobile families of radios in a
second course, regardless of the operating mode (e.g., P25IP, OpenSky®, EDACS®, or Conventional).
The following table provides a list of standard training courses. The table includes the course number, and the location where
the training can be conducted as indicated by the course length.
TECHNICAL TRAINING
WEB-BASED TRAINING
The importance of properly trained end users cannot be understated. Therefore, we have developed a web-based training
solution for our customers that provides operational training to radio users and dispatch personnel. Web-based training can
build the end users’ confidence by improving their knowledge of system operation and skills to operate their equipment,
which will enhance performance and help reduce the number of trouble reports.
Often, radio users and dispatchers only receive training on their radios and dispatch consoles during initial implementation of
a radio system. How much of this training is absorbed and retained? How many operational features are not being utilized
correctly, if at all? Web-based training provides a mechanism to effectively deliver refresher training for radio users,
dispatchers, supervisors, and system administrators on the operation of radio and dispatch console equipment used in the
system. Additionally, it can be used to augment training for new personnel due to turnover and facilitate the transition to new
radios due to rebanding.

SUMS
With software and the threats against that software constantly evolving, organizations need an effective way to assess,
deploy, and manage a constant flow of patches for the myriad operating systems and applications in their heterogeneous
environments. For system administrators responsible for potentially tens or hundreds of thousands of endpoints running
various operating systems and software applications, patch management can easily overwhelm already strained budgets and
staff. SUMS balances the need for fast deployment and high availability with an automated, simplified patching process that
is administered from a single console.
Security Enhancements
SUMS automates the complete patch management process and enhances security while saving money, time, and effort.
The SUMS automation agent continuously monitors and reports endpoint state, including patch levels, to a management
server. This agent also compares endpoint compliance against defined policies, such as mandatory patch levels.
Organizations can quickly create a report showing which endpoints need updates and then distribute those updates to the
endpoints within minutes. IT administrators can safely and rapidly patch Windows®, Linux®, and UNIX® operating systems
with no domain-specific knowledge or expertise.
Confirmation
Once a patch is deployed, SUMS automatically reassesses the endpoint status to confirm successful installation and
immediately updates the management server in real time. This step is critical in supporting compliance requirements, which
require definitive proof of patch installation. With this solution, operators can watch the patch deployment process in real
time via a centralized management console to receive installation confirmation within minutes of initiating the patch process.
By closing the loop on patch times, organizations can ensure patch compliance in a way that is smarter and faster.
Commitment to Success
SUMS builds upon Harris’ continuing customer commitment as a valued enhancement to the Software FX™ program and is
offered as part of Software FX.
Cost Effective
The combination of Software FX and SUMS provides a cost-effective means of keeping Harris’ critical communications
systems up to date and secure. Software FX and SUMS enable customers to incorporate the latest system features, functions,
options, and security updates to protect their mission-critical communications with confidence.
Features
SUMS is offered as a standard service for all Software FX customers. SUMS is designed to provide and automatically apply
periodic security updates to participating customers of Software FX.
Automatically manage patches for multiple operating systems and applications across hundreds of thousands of end-
points regardless of location, connection type or status
Reduce security and compliance risk by slashing remediation cycles from weeks to days or hours
Gain greater visibility into patch compliance with flexible, real-time monitoring and reporting
Provide up-to-date visibility and control from a single management console
Security Release Notes
Each security update includes Security Release Notes. These technical documents detail the following:
Product Vulnerability Alert (PVA) resolution or mitigation information
Software and hardware compatibility information, where applicable
Installation instructions

This section describes maintenance service options.
FULL MAINTENANCE SERVICE CONTRACTS
Critical communications systems are just that – essential to the operation of the organization. To assure uninterrupted
operation, a maintenance strategy, developed in conjunction with system design and implementation, often includes
maintenance by Harris. A complete program includes the following:
Preventive maintenance provides periodic checks and alignment to keep the system operating at published
specification levels and helps prevent failures
Remedial maintenance refers to activities required to correct reported malfunctions and equipment failures
Demand services include activities beyond the scope of the maintenance contract, such as installation and
removal of radios, sirens, light bars and other hardware
Assistance to Self-Service Customers can include vacation coverage, assistance with workloads that may
be too great for Self-Service Staff, after-hours coverage, projects, and optimization consultancy.
The benefits of a full Harris Maintenance Service Contract are as follows:
A specified level of service, including response time for critical backbone equipment, preventive maintenance
schedules, and normal working-hour support for terminal equipment
Reliable and consistent system operation because only calibrated test equipment is used by Harris technicians
Local staffing, test equipment, and service vehicles
The customer defines the level of support required, from complete administration and maintenance of the system to specific
maintenance tasks, system testing, and alignment checks.
PREVENTIVE MAINTENANCE CONTRACTS
Harris recommends that self-maintained customers contract for twice yearly “System Tune-Ups” of their complete system.
This service supplements and complements their on-site capabilities. Time tested and proven, the partnership established
between Harris and the customer’s technicians affords a high level of end-user satisfaction because of decreased interruptions
to service and consistent system performance. The calibrated test equipment provided each Harris technician increases the
reliability of the adjustments made during preventive maintenance and alignment.
System Tune-Up contracts provide the following benefits:
Ensure equal audio levels on all channels, at all sites
Provide stable and predictable overlap areas on simulcast
Ensure even power output levels on all stations
Provide minimal service interruptions during Software FX upgrades

SERVICE PLANNING
Harris recommends that customers select their preferred service option while they are planning for a new system. This
allows the selected service provider to participate in the installation, commissioning, and initial operation of the system under
warranty. They are then better prepared to continue maintenance responsibilities after warranty.
Harris also recommends that the customer purchase the recommended list of system spare parts. This provides faster
restoration of service if critical system modules fail. The alternative is to order the replacement parts from the Service Parts
Operation in Lynchburg, Virginia. Upon completion of the system design, a recommended spare parts list is generated and
forwarded to the customer. Spare parts expenditure is typically 5% of the system backbone purchase price. Harris
recommends the purchase of spare terminals as follows:
Mobiles 3%
Portables 5%
These exchange radios allow all users to continue operation during radio repair cycles.
FACTORY REPAIR AND RETURN
The Factory Repair and Return Depot in Lynchburg, Virginia provides a complete range of repair for all Harris equipment
both in warranty and post-warranty. If an item is out of warranty and cannot be repaired economically, the customer will be
contacted for disposition instructions or replacement authorization. If the item is in warranty and cannot be repaired, it will
be replaced at no charge in accordance with the warranty provisions associated with the original sale of the item.
The cost-effective flat-rate repair program is designed for both self-maintained customers and Authorized Service Centers
that do not elect to perform all repairs locally. Flat-rate pricing applies to units that are defective through normal wear and
usage. Flat rates do not apply to damage due to tampering, multiple defects, physical damage, or replacement of batteries,
antennas, or accessories. For current Flat Rate Prices view the information located online at:
http://www.pspc.harris.com/CustomerService/default.asp
The target for turnaround time for repairs from the date of receipt in Lynchburg to return shipment is 10 working days.
FIELD SERVICES
Domestic customers may request a repair RMA by completing the form located at:
http://pspc.harris.com/media/Repair-Return%20Request%20Form_tcm27-21096.pdf
All returns must be authorized by Customer Care for issuance of a Return Material Authorization (RMA) prior to
sending any material for repair.

NETWORK OVERVIEW
VIDA®
The Voice, Interoperability, Data, and Access (VIDA) network can seamlessly utilize multiple air interfaces and technologies
across the network, providing complimentary choices for coverage, capacity, and feature sets. Voice-over-IP (VoIP) and
Harris’ IP-based architecture allow all of the elements to function seamlessly across the network. A single set of unified
administration and management applications provides a powerful toolset for managing the VIDA network regardless of
which technologies are employed. A VIDA network is easily and cost-effectively scalable across a country, state, region, or
even nationwide. Industry-standard routers and servers are used across the network to keep costs down and to future-proof
the network.
NetworkFirst®
Public safety communications in today’s world faces unprecedented challenges. More than ever, Homeland Security and
Situation Readiness depend heavily on effective communication among federal, state, county, and local agencies.
Harris’ NetworkFirst answers the call for an emergency communications network that provides local, regional, state, and
even nationwide connectivity. NetworkFirst uses Internet Protocol (IP) packet switched technologies to provide a fast, cost-
effective means of achieving multi-agency interoperability, regardless of radio type, frequency, or mode. NetworkFirst
creates the most technologically advanced permanent communications network available in the industry today, providing a
technology backbone that is extremely flexible, allowing communications requirements to expand – without a wholesale
system changeout.
OpenSky®
Harris’ OpenSky wireless network is a fully interoperable digital trunked communications network for public safety, utility,
federal, transit, and industrial markets. OpenSky is a complete end-to-end Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) solution and
employs packet technology to provide integrated voice and data. The OpenSky radio network is the only private land mobile
radio communications system that provides clean integration of data messaging with trunked digital voice on the same RF
channel. Integrated voice and data over Time Division Multiple Access (TDMA) allows users to perform multiple
communication functions at the same time on one radio. The use of TDMA exponentially increases call capacity by allowing
four simultaneous voice calls per 25 kHz channel. The Cell Site and V-TAC products provide cost-effective coverage fill-in
and coverage extension solutions.
P25IP
Harris’ P25IP (P25 to the power of IP) was the first completely Internet Protocol (IP)-based mobile radio communications
system developed for users requiring the secure digital voice and data capabilities of Project 25 (P25). P25IP is part of a
portfolio of solutions that Harris offers for wide-area communication systems – each of which is capable of meeting the
communications requirements of federal, public safety, public service and first responders. P25IP meets the requirements of
the P25 Phase 1 and Phase 2 standards, plus provides value-added voice and data features. P25IP networks can be configured
for single-site, multi-site, simulcast, or a combination. P25IP is also particularly appropriate for users operating with non-
exclusive VHF and UHF frequencies. For federal users, P25IP meets the Congressional and NTIA mandates for the
narrowband (12.5 kHz) migration.
BeOn®
BeOn is a managed group communications solution enabling Push-to-Talk, Presence, and Situational Awareness services.
BeOn can be configured as a standalone communications platform and can also be tightly integrated with narrowband land
mobile radio systems to provide interoperable PTT services. The BeOn client application operates on standard commercial
carrier Android™ and iOS™ smartphone and tablet user devices as well as Windows® PCs, providing a very low cost-per-
user communications platform. With its built-in suite of applications, BeOn saves time, labor, and money through increased
efficiencies and an enhanced communication experience.
BeOn is a next generation platform that is built from the ground up to be tightly integrated with P25 radio systems,
supporting key P25 features such as the P25 codec, encryption, ability to declare and sense P25 emergency states, P25 group
scanning, and preemption. BeOn builds on P25 functionality while leveraging available broadband data networks to deliver
advanced features such as presence states, geographic mapping, and other situational awareness features.

CENTRALIZED NETWORK MANAGER
The Centralized Network Manager (CNM) provides a suite of powerful tools that enable comprehensive reporting of network
status, and fault, performance, and configuration management of a network. Implemented on a Dell™ R620 server, the CNM
supports an intuitive graphical user interface that assists the operator with network supervision, event notification, and
problem resolution. Customizable security schemes allow the definition of operation privileges on a user basis.
In a multi-region network served by multiple Network Switching Servers, a CNM is employed to acquire management data
from all regions in the network through each underlying host server.

UNIFIED ADMINISTRATION SYSTEM
The Unified Administration System (UAS) is the centralized access point from which the network is provisioned. The UAS
is Harris-developed software deployed in three tiers – Network Administration System, Network Provisioning Server, and
Relational Database Management System. The design of the UAS eases the burden of radio system administrators by
providing a tool with intuitive interfaces, integrity checking, and utilities. Customizable security schemes allow operation
privileges to be defined on a user basis.
The UAS provides a database of resource pools from which agencies may configure dynamic provisioning properties for the
Network Switching Server, base stations, radios, and vehicular repeaters. At the regional level, the UAS software and
Regional Network Manager (RNM) software both run on an x86-based server, the Regional Management Server. At the
system level in a multi-region VIDA® system, the UAS application runs on the Centralized Management Server.

Server. The following is for information only.
REGIONAL MANAGEMENT SERVER
The Regional Management Server (RMS) provides the single point of access for the management and administrative tasks for
a VIDA® Network. Using powerful virtual machine technology, VIDA management applications which formerly ran on
separate servers have been consolidated onto a single server. Two of the applications critical to the management and
administration of a VIDA network are the Regional Network Manager (RNM) and the Unified Administration System
(UAS).
The RNM provides a suite of powerful tools that enable comprehensive reporting of network status and fault, performance,
and configuration management of a network. It supports an intuitive graphical user interface that assists the operator with
network supervision, event notification, and problem resolution. Customizable security schemes allow the definition of
operation privileges on a user basis. The RNM is the consolidated point for viewing and monitoring the performance of a
network defined by a single Network Switching Server. Through active polling of the managed objects and receipt of
autonomous trap information via SNMP and custom UDP agents, the RNM keeps the operator up-to-date with the latest
status of the network.
The UAS is the centralized access point from which the network is provisioned. The UAS consists of software deployed in
three tiers – Network Administration System, Network Provisioning Server, and Relational Database Management System.
The design of the UAS eases the burden of radio system administrators by providing a tool with intuitive interfaces, integrity
checking, and utilities. Customizable security schemes allow operation privileges to be defined on a user basis. The UAS
also provides a database of resource pools from which agencies may configure dynamic provisioning properties for the
Network Switching Server, base stations, radios, and vehicular repeaters.
Additional applications deployed on the RMS include the Activity Warehouse, Device Manager, SUMS, Active Directory,
and E-Policy Orchestrator.

"Another point I should make is that new users should take the
training classes that are offered in Lynchburg. I attended the system
Student management and administrative courses, and will soon be going
Feedback back. The level of instruction is top-notch, and the people really
make you feel at home."
Operational Training
Overview Operational training provides dispatch personnel and radio users with the
knowledge and skills to operate their dispatch consoles and terminal products
respectively. It also includes a course on radio programming for either a
P25IP or EDACS system, and a configuration course on OpenSky terminal
products.
Dispatch personnel are at the core of effective and efficient implementation
of a radio system. While the time required for training is minimal, the
payback is immense. A solid understanding of both console and system
operation is required to effectively train dispatch personnel on the operation
of a dispatch console. Therefore, our instructor conducts dispatch console
operational training directly for dispatchers and their supervisors. A train-
the-trainer format is not recommended.
The importance of field equipment users understanding basic system
operation and the operation of their portable and/or mobile radios must not
be underestimated. We offer two options for providing user equipment
operator training: train-the-user and train-the-trainer.
Creating a radio personality through programming and configuring a radio
that meets operational requirements and is user friendly helps ensure
effective communications.
Console Equipment This course provides dispatchers and supervisors with the knowledge and
Operator Training skills to operate their C3 MaestroIP Dispatch Console, Symphony Console, or
(YTSP5P) Momentum Console, as applicable. The customer's operational consoles are
utilized during this training. The training includes a discussion on the
differences between conventional and trunked radio systems, if applicable, an
overview of the customer's system, and basic system operation. The training
is held in small groups with no more than two people on an operating
console. This maximizes the effectiveness of the hands-on portion of the
training. Each training session is four hours in length. Training on the VIP
Console is offered through our web-based training program.
User Equipment We offer two options for providing user equipment operator training: train-
Operator Training the-user and train-the-trainer. The train-the-user option uses our instructors
(YTSP7R) to conduct training directly to field personnel on the operation of the portable
and mobile radios to be used in the system. The train-the-trainer option uses
our instructors to conduct training for designated customer trainers who then
instruct the rest of the radio users.
continued on next page
User Equipment Each of these options has certain benefits. The train-the-user option has the
Operator Training following benefits:
(continued)
• Our instructors are training professionals who know how to transfer
knowledge and skills to adults.
• Our instructors have the technical competency to answer radio and
system operational questions with accuracy and confidence.
• Our instructors are motivated to perform this task.
There are two main benefits from using the train-the-trainer approach.
• The train-the-trainer approach is more cost effective. It takes less
time for Harris to train designated customer trainers than for our
instructors to directly instruct all end users.
• Designated customer trainers are more knowledgeable about the daily
operation of their agencies and have an established relationship with
the end users.
The following topics are included in both the train-the-user and train-the-
trainer options:
• a comparison of conventional and trunked operation, and analog and
digital voice (as applicable)
• an overview of the customer's radio system
• a description of system operation
• a discussion of radio/system coverage expectations
• a demonstration of radio operation, and
• hands-on practice with the radios.
Train-the-user sessions typically last between two-to-four hours, which
ensures adequate time for questions and answers. Participants are provided
with high quality, customized handouts for their respective radios for optimal
learning. This training should be conducted as close to cutover as possible to
allow the users to promptly begin using their radios.
Train-the-trainer sessions vary in length between four-to-eight hours per
session depending on the complexity of the customer's radio system.
Customer trainers are provided with hard and soft copies of customized
presentation material to allow for additional customization, if desired. This
training should be conducted approximately two-to-four weeks prior to
cutover to allow time for the customer’s trainers to practice using the
equipment as well as to hold training sessions for their trainees.
Unity Radio This course provides in-depth instruction on programming and operating the
Programming & Unity portable and mobile radios for system administrators, technicians, and
Operation anyone else who needs the knowledge and skills to create a radio personality
(YTSN9U) to meet operational needs. Although the course focuses on the Unity radios
when attended at the Harris Technical Training Center, it is beneficial to
anyone who needs to learn radio programming using the Radio Personality
Manager (RPM) application.
In this course, participants learn the process of creating a master radio
personality using RPM. This includes creating frequency and group sets to
build “systems/zones,” and selecting radio options (i.e., power-up options,
display settings, alert tones, timer settings, emergency features, supervisory
features, etc.). The operational impact of selecting different options is
explored and the modification of existing radio personalities is also
addressed. The training also includes manually generating and loading
encryption keys using the Key Manager application.
If conducted on site, the training can be customized based on the specific
radio models used by the customer. The training will utilize equipment and
software (e.g., radios, computers, programming cables, key loaders, etc.)
provided by the customer. It is essential that at least one computer, loaded
with the applicable software, is provided for every two participants for
optimal learning.
OpenSky Terminal This course provides system administrators and technicians with the
Product Configuration configuration file requirements and available options for each OpenSky
(YTSN9K) terminal product including Vehicular Tactical Repeater (VTAC) units.
Topics include an overview of basic configuration file data, the impact of the

modify or alter configuration file data. The hands-on portion of the training
will include connecting to an OpenSky device and loading software,
developing configuration file data, and loading the created configuration file
into the device. Modifying and updating software and configuration file data
to facilitate troubleshooting a terminal product will be discussed and
performed. Proper techniques to save, retain, and manage software and
configuration files will also be reviewed.
Completion of either the OpenSky System Administration (YTSN6E) or
OpenSky Site Equipment Maintenance (YTSN5C) course is a prerequisite.
Additionally, participants should be familiar with their department or
agency’s fleet map.

Overview The importance of properly trained end users cannot be overstated. Often,
radio users and dispatchers only receive training on their radios and dispatch
consoles during initial implementation of a radio system. How much of this
training is absorbed and retained? How many operational features are not
being utilized correctly, if at all? Web-based training provides a mechanism
to effectively deliver refresher training for radio users, dispatchers,
supervisors, and system administrators on the operation of radio and dispatch
console equipment used in the system, and can be used to augment training
for new personnel due to turnover.
Additionally, web-based training builds the end users’ confidence by
improving their knowledge of system operation and skills to operate their
equipment, which will enhance performance and help reduce the number of
trouble reports.
Benefits The benefits of a web-based training approach are numerous and include the
following:
• Training can be accessed whenever it is needed (24 hours a day,
seven days a week) from any location that has access to the Internet.
• It is cost-effective, especially when student or instructor travel and
living expenses associated with attending standard classroom
instruction are considered.
• Courses are self-paced, highly interactive, and developed utilizing
animation and other multimedia tools to help keep students engaged,
which increases retention.
• Course content can be updated quickly due to changes in equipment
operation or added functionality.
• Training delivery is consistent and structured to ensure learning
objectives are met.
• A learning management system makes it easy to track student
progress and generate reports. This includes administering a test at
the end of each course to measure student achievement of learning
objectives.
Courses Available Our goal is to have a web-based training course available for every portable
and mobile radio, and dispatch console used in our P25 and OpenSky radio
systems. Our library of available courses is continually growing so check our
website for the latest list of available courses.
The following are screen captures from a couple of portable radio operation

Express. All purchases are final. Course access is provided for 30 days
when courses are purchased individually.
Customers can also purchase an annual site license, based on the number of
students, with unlimited access to all training courses applicable to your
organization. Additional information is on the following pages.
Site License Harris offers a one-year site license to access the standard web-based training
program. The following are some of the additional benefits you will
experience by purchasing a site license instead purchasing individual courses
using a credit card:
Students have access to training courses for an entire year instead of
only a 30-day window.
Students have access to all courses that are applicable to your system
and courses don’t have to be purchased individually. This benefits
end users who operate and require training on both portable and
mobile radios.
Courses can be added to your training program at no additional cost if
you purchase other radio models during the term of the license. For
example, four months into the site license you decide to buy Unity
XG-100P portable radios. Harris will add this course to your training
program upon request at no charge.
Courses are automatically updated based on software releases that
introduce new features or functions.
Newly developed courses can be added to your training program at no
additional charge during the term of the license if the courses are
applicable to your system.
Harris can provide a designated individual with administrative rights
to the Learning Content and Management System so that you can
directly monitor student activity and progress in completing courses,
and generate reports.
The following table provides price information for a one-year site license and
the renewal price for a second year, which is discounted by 50%:
Base Package
(Up to 500 students)
$10,125.00 $5,062.50
Site License The base package one-year site license can be more cost effective than
(continued) purchasing individual courses using a credit card. For example, let’s look at
a customer who has 150 users to train on both portable and mobile radio
operation. The total cost to purchase these courses separately is $13,500.00
($45/portable course x 150 users plus $45/mobile course x 150 users) where
a site license costs only $10,125.00 plus you receive all the extra benefits
that come with the site license.
Harris can also provide a quotation to customize any training course. The
cost is based on the scope of changes. Typical customization tasks include
incorporating the customer’s system and talk group structure, modifying
radio button/key functions to reflect actual radio programming, deleting radio
functionality not provided or used (e.g., individual call capability), and
replacing photographs with customer provided pictures.
