BLOCKING: Basically there are 2 ways of


blocking.
1. Steam blocking: arrange item on a flat
surface, hold steam iron above the surface,
(not touching the surface), and steam.
Allow the item to dry in the shape desired.
2. Immerse in water, and squeeze water out, or spray with water. Arrange item on a thick bath towel, shape
as desired, allow to dry undisturbed.

MATERIALS: Worsted weight yarn, approx. 80 yards, straight needles size 7 mm (no us #) yarn needle, 1 yd ribbon.

INSTRUCTIONS: Gauge: 2.5 stitches wide by 3 rows high = 1 Sq. inch.


Newborn to 3 months:
1. Working with 2 strands of worsted weight yarn, and size 7 MM knitting needles, cast on 10 stitches.
2. Work in ribbing, k2p2, for 4 rows.
3. Knit across the row, making 2 stitches in every 2nd stitch. (15 stitches)
4. Knit the first 3 stitches for the front band, purl across the row.
5. Knit across the row.
6. Repeat step 4 and step 5 until the work measures approx. 13 inches, ending with a purl row.
7. Knit across the row, knitting 2 stitches together every 2nd stitch, reducing to 10 stitches.
8. Work in ribbing for 4 rows, casting off each stitch as it is worked in the last row. Leave a
12 inch long yarn end.
9. Fold the work in half and sew the back seam with the yarn end and a yarn needle.
10. Pass a ribbon through the front band of the hat.
