Key Terms

 Balance – The visual weight of objects, texture, colors, and space is evenly
distributed on the screen. When visiting a website, check if one side holds the
same amount of weight on the other. The color should also have a similar visual
weight.
 Emphasis - An area in the design that may appear different in size, texture,
shape or color to attract the viewer’s attention.
 Rhythm - Is achieved when visual elements create a sense of organized
movement.
 Pattern - These are the repeating visual element on an image or layout to create
unity in the layout or image.
 Visual Movement - Visual elements guide the viewer’s eyes around the screen.
 Infographics – used to represent data in a graphical manner. It makes complex
data become more visually appealing to the average user.
 Web 1.0 – Static website without interactivity.
 Web 2.0 – Website that contains dynamic content.
 Web 3.0 – A concept of the World Wide Web that is designed to cater to the
individual user.
 Static – Refers to web pages that are the same regardless of the user.
 Dynamic – Refers to web pages that are affected by user input or preference.
 Convergence – The synergy of technological advancements to work on a similar
goal or task.
 Cybercrime – A crime committed or assisted through the use of the Internet.
 Adware – A program designed to send you advertisements, mostly pop-ups.
 Malwares – Stands for malicious software.
 Fair Use – Means that an intellectual property may be used without a consent as
long as it is used in commentaries, criticism, search engines, parodies, news
reports, research, library archiving, teaching, and education.
 Theme – The overall design of a website.

 Hyperlink – A text or object that contains a link to another file, web page, a place

 Proportion – Visual elements create a sense of unity where they relate well with

interfaces such as voice, biometrics, augmented reality, virtual reality, and some
other forms of reality yet to be defined.
 Virus – A program that copy itself and infect files, programs and computers.
 Spyware – A type of malware that can be installed on computers to collect
information about users without their knowledge.
 Phishing – It is the fraudulent practice of sending emails purporting to be from
reputable companies in order to induce individuals to reveal personal information
such as passwords and credit card numbers.
 Spam – These are irrelevant or inappropriate messages sent on the internet to al
large number of recipients.
 Trojan – A malicious program that is disguised as a useful program but once
downloaded or installed, leaves your PC unprotected and allows hackers to get
your information.
 Virtual Assistant – Apple’s Siri, Amazon’s Alexa and Microsoft’s Cortana
 Computer Ethics – It is a new branch of ethics that is growing and changing
rapidly as computer technology also grows and develops.
