Hours: 8:30 am - 4:30 pm

Purpose:
Reporting to the Director Information Technology, this position acts as the technology support role for the Lassonde
School of Engineering. This includes front-end helpdesk technical and end-user support for a variety of academic and
administrative so ware, services, and related hardware. This position will also be responsible for installing,
maintaining and upgrading of hardware and so ware in the Lassonde Computer Labs, first-line Audio Visual and
Educational Technologies support in the classrooms.

Education:
College diploma in Technology, Sciences or Computer Science field or an equivalent of 2 years recent experience
(defined as within the last three years) working at York University and performing the same or similar tasks. This
education equivalency is in addition to the experiential requirements outlined below. A certification in Microso
Technologies MCSE, SharePoint and ITIL is an asset.

Experience:
3 years of recent experience (defined as within the last 5 years) in end-user technical support and customer service
including significant experience in the following: Microso Active Directory environment, SharePoint, Windows, MS
SCCM, MS Development Tools. O ice 365, Apple OS, Linux OS, Service Desk so ware, and asset management.

Skills:
Excellent analytical skills to diagnose and resolve so ware and hardware problems in a networked computing
environment. Excellent customer service, written and oral communication skills to elicit accurate information from
client users and be able to answer inquiries in an informative and tactful manner. Teaching and instructing others in
the use of hardware and so ware systems. Must have demonstrated ability to manage multiple tasks while under
pressure and be able to work both independently as well as an e ective team member. Must have a willingness to
learn, keep abreast of and master new technologies. Ability to establish cooperative and e ective working
relationships. Exercising tact and diplomacy; dealing calmly and e ectively with people; attending accurately to
details; setting priorities and working e ectively under pressure of high volume; ability to multi-task within an
environment of frequent interruptions; ability to show initiative; demonstrated e ective supervisory skills. Ability to
keep up to date with computer system developments; good organizational skills; ability to maintain confidentiality &
security of sensitive material. Must be flexible with work hours for projects that will run in the evening or weekend to
prevent disruption of classes or labs.
The following certifications are desired; Microso Certified Technology Specialist (MCTS). Microso Certified System
Engineer (MCSE). Apple Certified Support Professional (ACSP). ITIL V3 Foundations certification.

SKILLS MATRIX:
Specific technologies include but are not limited to:
End User Technologies: Expert Level required. Desktop/Laptop/Tablet/Smart Phones technologies, MS O ice 365
Client / Cloud version and similar productivity tools, disk/data encryption/compression tools, web conferencing
systems, print technologies, wireless networking protocols, web-based technologies, computing devices
configuration tools and image distribution technologies, multi-vendor systems, audio/video projectors, classroom
technologies, lecture capture systems, consumer grade technologies.

Enterprise Network Infrastructure level systems: Intermediate Level Required Network Infrastructure technologies
including switches, routers, security firewalls and intrusion detection, system monitoring tools, remote access / VPN
systems, network cabling, data centre technologies. Backup and recovery systems including
cloud/disk/tape/san/network replication technologies. Enterprise server technologies including Blade systems,
SAN/NAS, Virtualization and clustering technologies.

Operating Systems, Network and Communication Systems: Intermediate Level Required. MS Windows operating
systems 20xx, SharePoint, Active Directory environment, Unix/Linux operating systems, Apple iOS Mac/Mobile,
Android, TCP/IP and other network routing protocols, WiFi, Bluetooth, consumer grade technologies,
print/scan/copier systems, virtualization technologies, LAN/WAN/SAN, VoIP, H323, A/V systems and web
communication technologies. Desktop imaging, deployment and recovery technologies.

Middleware/Application/Database Systems: Basic Level Required. Microso SQL/.NET/CRM tools, MySQL database,
Oracle database, Student Information Systems, Salesforce. Web Content Management tools like WordPress, Drupal,
Joomla, and other systems, Apache HTTP, SSL, and other web server technologies.

Security Management Systems: Intermediate Level Required. Enterprise Anti-Virus, antispam, anti-phishing and other
end client protection technologies. System logs, data security auditing tools, social engineering, network intrusion
detection systems, firewall and other security technologies.
