DESIGN OF MECHATRONIC SYSTEMS

Prateek Rastogi | Dr. S. Denis Ashok | SMEC

Motivation/ Introduction Results
This project represents work done as part of internship in Siemens Technical
Academy, Berlin. Germany. The project is aimed at programming Programmable The result of this project was to program the mechatronics systems and
Logic Controllers in order to program Mechatronics Systems and develop effective develop efficient codes which could further be used for teaching and
program. related purposes.
The project also focused on implementation of Siemens Production System in a Successful programs for Programmable Logic Controller- Siemens S7 300
simulated Pen Factory to develop effective techniques for efficient production were developed with the required documentations . These documentations
systems in real time applications. were created for troubleshooting purposes and also so that the
Mechatronic System could be understood by all.
SCOPE of the Project
The scope of the project extends towards programming The project all involved maintenance of the mechatronics systems and
during these six months after facing various challenges the objective was
Programmable Logic Controllers of each sub system of a Mechatronic successfully obtained.
System in order to complete predefined tasks. These sub systems also
known as modules are responsible for carrying out a particular tasks
which are done by actuators driven by controller and which in turn Designing and manufacturing of various parts of the Mechatronic System
works on the inputs given by sensors were done in order to maintain the system.

by using Siemens PLC S7 300

Methodology

Using the existing Literature a step execution plan

is created. The input devices such as Sensors are
studied and their counterpart output devices are
then studied. After this a Sequential Step Diagram 3D Modelling of Part
produced for the
is created .The programming of the Programmable Mechatronic System
Logic Controller is done to execute those steps in
a Mechatronic System.

Further documentation is created which in turn

can be used for troubleshooting purposes.

Conclusion/ Summary
The programs for the Mechatronic System were developed using the Literature
along with general hard points. Further to the literature documentation for each
sub system of the Mechatronic System were developed which can be further
used for troubleshooting of the system in case of failure.

Further scope:

The programs developed can be used for further teaching and research purposes
by varying the input parameters by using different sensors in the Mechatronic
System.
