4As TASK- BASED LESSON PLAN IN ENGLISH 9

I. OBJECTIVES :
At the end of the lesson, the students will be able to:
a. note significant events mentioned in the story;
b. determine the relevance and the truthfulness of the ideas presented in the material;
c. appreciate literature as a means of understanding unchanging values in a changing world through
an analysis;
d. complete the sentence with the appropriate comparative degree of adjective; and
e. relate text content to particular social issues, concerns, or dispositions in real life.
II. SUBJECT MATTER:
1. Topics:
Primary Topic: “The Last Leaf” by O’ Henry (Literature)
Secondary Topic: Comparative Degree of Adjective (Grammar)

III. LESSON PROPER:
1. Activity:
 Introduce the objectives for today’s lesson.
 Present a leaf. Let students compare themselves to it.
2. Analysis:
 Let the students answer the following process questions:
a.) How was the activity? Was it easy or difficult for you to compare yourself to a leaf?
Why or why not?
b.) What considerations did you make or what were you thinking while relating yourself
to a leaf?
c.) What was your feeling while doing the activity?
 Relate the answers of the students to the story “The Last Leaf” by O’ Henry.
 Unlock the unfamiliar words through contextual clues.
3. Abstraction:
 Bridge from the sharing of the students to the literary piece.
 Define the unfamiliar words that might find the students difficult to understand the story.
 Introduce the setting and the characters in the story.
 Discuss the story “The Last Leaf “by O’ Henry interactively through presenting pictures.
 Present the themes of the story by asking questions.
 Expound the ideas presented to validate students’ understanding for clarifications and
confirmations.
 Inject the statements given by the students during the analysis towards to the new topic.
 Discuss briefly the rules in forming the comparative degree of adjective through
presenting explicit examples.
 Complete the sentence with the appropriate comparative degree of adjective
4. Application:
A. Differentiated Tasks:
 Show a particular issue, concerns , or dispositions in real life based on the story “The Last
Leaf “ by O’ Henry
Group 1: Do a Mannequin Challenge that shows the sacrifice of Mr. Behrman to Johnsy.
Group 2: Present a news report that shows a man or woman who sacrificed her/ his life for
the sake of others.
Group 3: Dramatize the ending of the story
Group 4: Create a new ending of the story.
