Theoretical framework

From a sociological point of view, truancy can be considered as deviant behavior.

The following analysis will concentrate on three theories of delinquency: 1) The social
control theory (Hirschi 1969) plus its extension of family factors through the theory of
informal control by Sampson and Laub (1993), 2) The theory of anomie that is combinable
with the expectancy value theory, and 3) The theory of urban subcultures which also
includes elements of the theory of anomie, the social disorganization theory, the subculture
theory and the theory of differential associations.

Hypothesis of the study

There are clear pattern in truancy data. We expected clear patterns in the data. In line with
scientific research we anticipated that younger have lower truancy and absenteeism rates
than older people who are more often are also likely to be sick more often to be in the
future. These patterns in the data could on the one hand explain the school’s increasing
truancy and absenteeism rates, and on the other hand provide us with valuable input for
interventions. Engagement survey data has an impact in truancy from the school this is a
more open hypothesis because we don’t know the full extent of our data set yet.

Assumption of the study

This research is designed to entertain many main and sub problems. According to
P. O. Adeyomo assume that the following causes of truancy are common in the society
which are:
a. keeping in a bad company
b. Uninteresting lesson of the teacher
c. Teacher as a truant

d. Lack of school materials

e. Failures to comply with school requirements

f. The students keeping awake near by all the right and does not get up early
enough to prepare for school.
g. Laziness on the part of school students.
Although this study is restricted to the teachers and students. Because the investigator
is interested in the factors in the school.

DEFINITION OF TERMS

Truancy- This could be defined as the practice by which the students leave home for school
but do not reach their destination rather they stay mid way between home
and school when school close. They return carry their boxes or bags and
go home in accompany of their mates in the pretence that they have close or
returned from school.

Truant- a student who stays away from school without leave or explanation.

Absenteeism - the practice of regularly staying away from work or school without good
reason.
