Universal Design for Learning (UDL) The content I am looking at is applying the formulas for cones,
cylinders, and spheres to solve for real-world mathematical problems. Based on the universal design for
learning, my task using the video is going to allow students to a direct access at any time to this information I
have prepared. I will most likely upload the video to a google classroom or similar platform for the students.
By allowing my students to use the YouTube software they will be able to display all areas of UDL:
Engagement, Representation, and Action & Expression. They will be actively engaged in the instruction of
real-world problem solving. I will also include a transcript of the audio portion of the video so that those who
might not be able to listen to me talk can see it visually. Lastly, they will display Action & Expression by having
them come up with their own question regarding the material in the video.
Lesson idea implementation:
As the teacher, I will most likely upload the video to a google classroom or similar platform for the
students. The students will be responsible for watching the video all the way through. This is not to be a big
project for the students, but mainly for them to benefit from the instructional purposes. The students will be
prepared with a power point lesson that introduces the volume formulas for cones, spheres, and cylinders
before the video. They will also have a worksheet for them to complete for homework so that they get more
practice.
I will extend the student learning to a higher level by giving the students the chance to create their own
video about the shape of their choice. They will choose a volume problem and essentially teach the class with
their video. We could do a collaborative video and put each group into a single video and upload it to a class
channel on YouTube given their parents permission. This project would take at least a couple days of class
time. I will conclude the lesson by presenting the end result to the class to showcase their hard work.
Importance of technology: In order for the project to be successful, the students will need to be able to use a
multimedia tool such as iMovie or adobe spark to complete. The project would not be able to be completed
without this technology since the end result is the multiple clipping from the student groups. The other types
of technology being used is a cellphone or other type of recording device to record the videos of the students.

Internet Safety and Student Privacy: Some possible issues that may arise since the students will be using a
multimedia platform to complete their project is that of student internet safety and student privacy. The
students will abide by the student internet safety procedures set in place by the school system. The
completed project will be uploaded to the teacher’s channel on YouTube/ teacher tube, but for the safety of
the children the video will be under the private account of the teacher to make sure there is not any
complications. The teacher will abide by any student privacy rules set in place by the school system. I will
eliminate the fears of any parents by making sure they are aware of the project through email or other form
of communication.
Reflective Practice: After reviewing my lesson over, I feel like the activity could be a bit much for the students
to handle if I am dealing with a loud group of students. However, the project is nice because it gives the
students the opportunity to get creative while also learning the standards about volume for a cylinder, cone,
and sphere. To further extend the project, I could have the students create a classroom tiktok to appeal more
to their level. Whether or not they can handle that responsibility will be completely up to how they behave
while completing the project.
