EDT 180

Reflection

I haven’t always been the best at handling technology. Sometimes I know what I’m doing

and other times I don’t. Though once you get the hang of things, it's much easier to use

technology. In EDT I did different projects and I have learned how to use many different

technology applications. In this class I also learned so much about the technology we use on a

daily basis. I did different projects, learned about secure websites and learned about new things

about the internet. EDT taught me many different lessons on the technology I use.

This semester in EDT I did many different projects. I’ve even used new technology

applications. Most of the applications I have used I have heard of but, I had never used them

until this class. The number of projects I have done include: podcasts, videos, powerpoints and I

even made my own website. At first it was overwhelming starting this class and knowing about

all the projects I would have to do. Though it became easier with time and doing each project. It

was actually a very fun experience to learn and use all these new technologies.

The first project we did was called the “Inquiry module” where we had to find new

technologies to use in our future classrooms. During this project I found many new technologies

I have never heard of before. Even new ones from classmates like an app that grades tests for

teachers. If they advance that app it could make a difference for my peers and I in our future

teaching profession. This project was useful because I found tools I think I would utilize in my

future as an educator. Another project I did was a podcast. This was one of my favorite projects
from the whole semester of EDT. It was my favorite because we could talk about anything we

wanted, like movies, games, hobbies, etc. I liked this project so much because sometimes I

would listen to them. I also thought about starting one in the future. This project gave me an idea

of what I would be getting into. I could talk about one main topic or have multiple topics,

podcasts really depend on the person and what they feel like discussing. I also created a website

in EDT from the website, “weebly’. It was an exciting experience because I’ve never even

thought of creating my own website. Now that I know how, I could go back to weebly and make

my very own personal website. These projects helped me discover new and exciting technologies

that I would be willing to use again..

There were some problems when doing the projects. At times I didn’t fully understand

the assignment. I would have to ask questions or reread the description. After doing that I would

get how to do the project and my finished assignment would look well done. When I first learned

I would be taking this class I was nervous because I am not the best at understanding technology.

Once we got started with all the projects it became easier. The class wasn’t as I expected, it was

much more interesting doing all the activities and projects. In the class we would talk about what

was going on in technology. I learned many different things about the technology in the world

today in this class. It makes me want to think about my information being out in the world too. I

even learned about secure and unsecure websites, you can tell when it says “https” or “http”. If it

says https which stands for “Hypertext Transfer Protocol Secure” and this means its secure. The

internet is a very mysterious place with many different layers that we have yet to uncover.

In the beginning I was nervous to start the projects. Though after each project it would

become easier. I would understand how the assignments would flow. First we would get the
assignment, then do a rough draft, after we would do feedback and finally we were able to turn in

the final project. Once the steps were done we would have to turn in a reflection on how the

project went. When doing the steps multiple times you get accustomed to how everything goes.

If I could go back and change any project I would redo my expression module project. This

project was about my teaching philosophy. For this I did a powerpoint. If I decide to redo it I

would add more animated pictures and designs. I might have even switched the type of project I

did, by doing a podcast instead. A podcast would have been better because I could discuss ideas

off the top of my head. Though I am happy with how my overall assignment came out.

EDT is a class made to teach students how to handle technology better and to learn more

about the technology in our world. In this class it did teach me many new lessons. It was good

that I took this class my first semester of university because now I know more about technology.

In the long run it will help me with future assignments for the next couple years or even in my

future. Each assignment taught me new things and gave me new applications I can use for

personal, schooI, or work related ideas. If I use the skills I learned in this class my projects will

come out better than they would have. Everyone should take classes like this so they can learn

new and different ideas. Overall, this class taught many lessons I will use in the future to come.
