Question No:1 A Class have 200 students, 70 students were randomly Chosen to play Hockey,
independent of that event, 50 students were randomly Chosen to play Cricket. If a student chosen at
random to Table Tennis, what is the probability that He or She is to play Hockey and if student chosen
at random is to play Cricket. What is the probability that he or she will play Table Tennis. Also if the
probability is 0.5 of 6 students out of 20 in being Table Tennis then what will be the probability of not
being in Table Tennis?
Solution:
Probability of Both Events:
Event A:
𝟕𝟎 𝟕
P(A)= 𝟏𝟎𝟎=𝟏𝟎=0.7
Event B:
𝟓𝟎 𝟏
P(B)= 𝟏𝟎𝟎= 𝟐=0.5
Independent Event Probability of both events:
𝑃(𝑟 = 2) = 0.3125
Total probability for the Events:
= 1 – 0.3125= 0.68
Question No 2: An engineering construction firm is currently working on power plants at two different
sites. Let A denote the event that the plant at site 1 is completed by the contract date and B denote the event
that the plant at site 2 is completed by the contract date. Use the operations of union, intersection, and
complementation
To describe each of the following events in terms of A, B draw a Venn diagram, and shade the region
corresponding to each one.
a. At least one plant is completed by the contract date.
b. All plants are completed by the contract date.
c. Only the plant at site 1 is completed by the contract date
SOLUTION:
Event (a) At least one plant is completed by the contract date. Can be represented as A U B
Event (b). All plants are completed by the contract date. Can be represented as
A∩B
Event (C). Only the plant at site 1 is completed by the contract date. Only A
Question No 3A man matches coin flips with a friend. He wins $2 if coins match and loses $2 if they
do not match. Sketch a sample space showing possible outcomes for this experiment and illustrate hoe the
points map onto real line x that defines the value of random variable X=”dollars won on a trial.” Also sketch
their distribution and density function.
