Warm greetings of peace!

Filipino artists continue to demand for better workplace conditions, higher wages, regularization, and
respect for performing rights, artistic and cultural freedom. Workplace conditions in film and TV shoots
surfaced again on public discussions after the untimely and tragic death of veteran actor Eddie Garcia.
Further, filmmakers, TV producers, songwriters are still hounded by MTRCB’s X-rating to the point of
some practicing self-censorship. Moreover, the job security of thousands of workers is in limbo due to the
franchise status of a major network. Finally, respect for intellectual property rights of performing artists
are unrecognized and seems to be an alien concept.

This representation seeks to have a formal dialogue between the sector and legislators to ensure
meaningful and timely policy reforms and for the artists to collectively air their grievances.

With these issues, this representation and House Committee on Labor chaired by Rep. Enrico Pineda,
together Task Force ChaCha, a loose group of concerned mainstream artists in TV, Film, Visual Arts and
Music, will be holding a Behind-The-Scenes: Workplace Issues and Conditions of Artists’ round-table-
discussion between legislators and artists on November 21, 2019, 9:30 am to 3:00 pm at Montilla Hall,
South Wing Annex, House of Representatives, Batasan, Quezon City.
