2019 Seoul INWEPF-PAWEES International Conference

2019 Seoul INWEPF-PAWEES Joint Statement

International Network for Water and Ecosystem in Paddy Fields (hereinafter referred
to as “INWEPF”) and International Society of Paddy and Water Environment
Engineering (hereinafter referred to as “PAWEES”) jointly held 2019 Seoul INWEPF-
PAWEES International Conference (hereinafter referred to as “2019 Seoul Conference”)
with the theme of “New, Green and Smart Paradigm of Agricultural Water” from
November 5 through 7, 2019 in Seoul, Republic of Korea. The 2019 Seoul Conference
aims to bring together INWEFPF and PAWEES members including policymakers,
academics, international organizations, experts and students from governments,
institutions and academic bodies from participated countries. The 2019 Seoul
Conference promotes discussion between INWEPF which consists of policymakers and
the PAWEES which consists of academics, to find solution to the development of
sustainable paddy farming while protecting and conserving the environment.

In the 2019 Seoul Conference, 235 participants from 22 countries and from 6
international organizations, shared their thoughts and ideas about policies and
research under the joint theme of 2019 Seoul Conference while facing the challenges
of global warming and climate change.

The both parties are fully aware of their duties and responsibilities of cooperating, at
all times, with their members to achieve sustainable development of paddy farming,
to secure agricultural water resources and to live in harmony with nature. At the 2019
Seoul Conference, on November 6, INWEPF and PAWEES have made the following
joint statement to achieve the mutual goals.
2019 Seoul INWEPF-PAWEES International Conference

INWEPF:
- Under one of the themes of the Fifth Phase, “Strengthening Partnership and
Utilization of INWEPF Expertise to achieve the SDGs”, the INWEPF expands its
activities to African regions where increasing rice production is an urgent issue.
The INWEPF invited some African countries to the 16th INWEPF Steering
Meeting and shared knowledge and experience with each other
- The INWEPF facilitates cooperation among the member countries and
international organizations.
- The Working Group 2 Workshop will be held in Bangkok, Thailand from
February 4 to 7, 2020 hosted by INWEPF Thai Committee
- The 17th INWEPF Steering Meeting will be held in Sri Lanka in 2020 hosted by
the INWEPF Sri Lankan Committee. The INWEPF members will get together for
the meeting and share knowledge and experiences toward further
development of paddy farming.
- The 18th INWEPF Steering Meeting will be held in Egypt in 2021 hosted by the
INWEPF Egyptian Committee.

PAWEES:
- Activities of PAWEES including editorial duties of the international journal of
PAWEES, Paddy and Water Environment (PWE) shall expand and strengthen
cooperation with national and international institutions as well as with
individual experts from regions or countries where paddy cultivation is
practiced.
- The international journal of PAWEES, Paddy and Water Environment (PWE),
has been well recognized in the disciplines of agricultural sciences, engineering,
and environmental sciences. The PAWEES members agreed to continuously
support the publication of the PWE and maintain its quality.
- The PAWEES 2020 international Conference will be hosted by TAES (Taiwan
Agricultural Engineers Society) in Taiwan. The purpose of the next conference
is to discuss the issues of paddy and water environment. Specific themes of the
conference will be announced later. The PAWEES members hope that PAWEES
2020 will provide an opportunity to enhance exchanges of our knowledge and
experience among participants.
