Reflection Paper Assignment

Throughout the duration of this course, I have learned quite a few different things related to

achieving computer literacy. One of the first objectives of mine that was met during this semester

was being able to approach new computer-based tasks more easily and with greater confidence. I

can confidently say this due to how many distinctive projects we were required to complete this

year, all pertaining to very diverse aspects of computers and software applications. Most of the

applications that were necessary to use, I had either never even heard of before or had only used

once or twice. After not only finishing but scoring exceedingly well on so many particular types

of projects, my confidence in approaching new computer-based tasks has honestly never been

higher.

The second objective of mine that was met during this semester was being able to demonstrate an

understanding of fundamental programming concepts using block programming. Prior to

receiving my certificate for completing the “Hour of Code” demonstrating an understanding of

the basic concepts of Computer Science, I hadn’t had the slightest of ideas on how to code or

even how coding really worked. However, after competing these activities as well as creating my

very own Star Wars game on Code.org, I had a much better understanding of fundamental

programming concepts using block programming. As I stated earlier on in this course, I am a

firm believer that coding is going to be the ‘second language’ of the future, especially seeing just

how fast technology is continuing to advance.

The third course objective of mine that was met throughout this semester was becoming familiar

with a majority of Google-based applications through creating and sharing Google-based

documents. Within this semester alone, I have learned more about the functionality of the many

applications provided by Google than I have throughout the entirety of my college career here at

Arizona State University. In Module 9, we learned a fair amount of the ins and outs of Google

Drive as well as some of the numerous functions it has to offer. After using all four services;

Google Docs, Google Sheets, Google Slides and Google Forms I now have a much broader

understanding of not only how to create and share these types of documents, but also their main

purposes and how they work. Shortly after learning this material, I have already been able to

implement this knowledge into my workplace by creating surveys for my fellow coworkers.

Over the course of this semester, I have learned an indispensable amount of information

regarding computer literacy. My personal experience in this class has been nothing short of

fantastic. I started off really not knowing much about computers aside from their basic

functionalities and general apps such as Microsoft Word. Now that we are coming to a

conclusion of our course, I feel exponentially more empowered to use technology as well as

learn even more about what it has to offer. Lastly, I believe that the impact of having this new

knowledge will be truly pivotal on my future endeavors.
