The movie, Sully, is about US Airways Pilots Captain Chelsley “Sully” Sullenberger
having to make an emergency landing of Flight 1549 in New York’s Hudson River after both the
engines are disabled due to a flock of geese. Despite all the passengers surviving miraculously,
the pilot faces an investigation that could destroy his career and reputation. The message given
throughout the movie is that humanity does exist during times of crises. Sully, in an interview,
stated that people were doubting human nature and were wondering if everything was about self-
interest and greed. After this tragedy happened, everyone acted selflessly by assisting each other.
The scriptwriter’s attitude towards the characters was to keep in mind the panic and
nervousness while the plane they were was going down. In addition, the scriptwriter wanted to
show the humbleness and courage of a man that was just performing his job. His attitude towards
the event occurring was to show what happened from the view of the main character without
leaving behind the important details. The only suspense throughout the movie is whether or not
Sully would lose his job after the investigation. It doesn’t deliver the effect intended because he
can prove why he made the decision to land in the Hudson given the amount of time he had. The
actors playing the passengers, pilots, and flight attendants succeed in depicting the panic and
nervousness when they realize the plane is going to go down. Also, Tom Hanks who portrays the
main character does a credible job at showing the PTSD (Post Traumatic Stress Disorder) when
he imagines the plane crashing into a building. The author’s intended audience were people who
believe in heroes, the older generation, and anyone who likes biographical films.
The entertainment value of the movie was good. Tom Hank’s delivers a powerful
performance keeping intact the courageousness and humbleness of his character’s actions as well
as the stress experienced. The overall impressions of this movie are 3.5 movie cameras.
