Date: September 25, 2019

1) A single phase overhead transmission line (50 km) delivers 1100 kW at 33 kV at 0.8 p.f lagging.
The total resistance and inductive reactance of the line are 10 Ω and 15 Ω respectively. Determine (i)
Sending end voltage (ii) Sending end power factor and (iii) Transmission efficiency.
2) A three phase voltage of 11 kV is applied to a short transmission line having R=10 Ω and X=12 Ω
per conductor. At the end of the line, there is a balanced load of P kW at 0.707 power factor leading.
Find the value of P for which the voltage regulation is zero.
3) A 40 MVA generating station is connected to a three-phase line having Z = 300∠75° Ω, Y =
0.0025∠90° ℧. The power at the generating station is 40 MVA at unity power factor at voltage of
120 kV. There is a load of 10 MW at unity power factor at the midpoint of the line. Calculate the
voltage and load at the distant end of the line. Use nominal-T circuit for the line.
4) A three phase transmission line has resistance and reactance of 5 Ω and 20 Ω respectively. The
star connected load at receiving end is 30 MW, 0.85 power factor lagging at 33 kV. (a) Find the
voltage at sending end. (b) What will be MVAR rating of the compensating device inserted at the
receiving end so as to maintain a voltage of 33 kV at both ends? (c) Also find the maximum load that
can be transmitted.
5) A three phase, 200 km long overhead transmission line has resistance of 0.16 Ω/km and
conductor diameter of 2 cm with spacing of 4m, 5m and 6m transposed. Find (a) The ABCD
constants
6) Find (a) The sending end line voltage, current, power factor and power when the line is delivering
50 MW at 132 kV and 0.8 lagging power factor (b) Efficiency of transmission (c) Receiving end
voltage regulation for problem (5)
7) Find (a) The incident and reflected currents for the line described in problem (5) at the receiving
end and (b) At a distance of 200 km from the receiving end.
8) For the problem 7, find the parameters of the equivalent π-circuit for the line.
