connect to the secure license server(s).

CADpass: A note about the Tunneling Driver: Some of our CAD tools require a secondary piece of
software to be installed from our CADpass application. It is called an "IP Tunneling Driver". This is NOT
necessary for the ANSYS suites, yet is important for some of the other tools. If one of your subscription
CAD tools requires this driver to run properly, then you must set up all of your subscription CAD tools in
the same way (using the specific license server name instead of the generic 'localhost').

The instructions in this guide are based on the assumption that your computer has the tunneling driver
installed. See our CADpass Quickstart Guide for steps to find this driver on your computer.

2. Start CADpass, and then log in using your CMC login Username and Password, as shown in Figure 1.

Figure 1: CADpass Login Window

3. When the CAD access window is displayed, double click the icon ANSYS.
You can also right-click the icon and select Start. A dialog box is displayed, and a green checkmark appears
to the left of the icon, as shown in Figure 2.

The following suggestions are based upon difficulties some of our subscribers have had when upgrading their
workstations to the latest release from earlier ANSYS installations.
Resident anti-virus programs sometimes interfere with installation programs (see Figure 10).
Firewalls sometimes block the CADpass program from reaching CMC Microsystems' servers (see Figure 11).
In rare cases, there may be port conflicts between newly-installed CAD tools and existing programs on a
user's workstation

If you followed these instructions and cannot start this suite, open a support case with CMC Microsystems.

For high-performance computing (HPC) applications, the ANSYS Campus Solutions bundle is designed to
work as follows:
Each time one of the main modules (e.g., Fluent, CFX, or MAPDL) is started by one of our subscribers,
this module can be run on up to multiple cores without requiring any additional license features.
Specifically, if your local workstation has a multi-core processor, you may set your simulation to call on
all of its cores for computations.

ANSYS CAD tool Campus Solutions' Base Licence Feature Max. No. CPU Cores for Feature
HFSS (ANSYS EDT) electronics_desktop 4
Mechanical APDL aa_r 4
Fluent aa_r 16

The license file provided to CMC Microsystems by ANSYS includes additional (HPC) license features for
users wanting to run simulations on more than 16 cores. Each feature is equal to one (1) additional core.
When a simulation is started, the ANSYS module checks out as many features as it can, to fill the user's

HPC request, and releases these features when the simulation is finished. In this way, ANSYS license
management allows CNDN users across Canadian universities to share one large pool of HPC licenses
with each other.
At this time (January, 2019), CMC licensing staff has removed the restriction on the number of HPC
license features used by a particular Multiphysics user. This means that one ANSYS subscriber token
allows a user to run a simulation on the maximum number of available cores in her or his environment,
up to the number of license features available in our license pool.
If you find that you are experiencing denials when attempting simulations, your token(s) may be in use
by another member of your group. Look at the report here to see if this is the case. If this is not the
case, then please contact our office for support .
When using the sparse solver in Mechanical APDL: The Shared Memory Parallel (SMP) solver will not
work with two or more graphics processing units. Use the Distributed Memory Parallel (DMP) solver
with multiple GPU processors. For more information see: https://www.ansys.com/products/structures
/hpc-structures.

The ACT feature in ANSYS 19.x and later does not exist for LINUX installations, though it performs properly
for Windows installations, as shown in Figure 12.

Figure 12: The ANSYS ACT GUI Starts From the Main Workbench GUI in Windows

In one of our support cases, a user tried to enter port@server information using the ANSYS license administration
tool. Do not install the ANSYS License Manager. It is not needed (Figure 13).
