Changing the World

Change Yourself - Change Your World - Change The World

Heaven and hell may or may not be a place on earth or a realm beyond ours. But they sure
are places in your mind. This is the typical misconception of religion. The disconnect
between these ideas and ourselves. Only through ourselves can the states of bliss and agony
be achieved, the human being is the only conduit of this. We are heaven and we are hell. As
such prayer is no appeal to an external deity, but an appeal to ones higher self. The self just
out of reach, pushing the boundaries and progressing the frontier. Divine wisdom may only
come from us, but the source remains mysterious, hidden in the fog of consciousness. To
retrieve these treasures we must plunge deep into the murky depths of ourselves but only
so far as we may return. A journey into the soul is not to be taken lightly, but it is to be
taken. Security in the established safety of our minds is a perilous thing. Misunderstanding
the capacity of oneself is the path, to destruction, to hell, the pit that sinks into infinity.

Finding yourself is not taken as seriously as it should. Most parents do not know how to
guide you, neither do many teachers, nor your local priest, even your heroes or idols. So
then who? Do you have to undertake this journey all by yourself? The answer appears to be
yes. Society may bring us some way, through literature and music and art we can get some
footing onto the field, but are still given no explanation as to where we are or where we
should go. Being set off into the blue like this can be challenging, we are further from safety
and have a vast amount of knowledge stacked up for us to begin to understand. The leap of
faith gets harder and harder the further you are pushed out. For many this becomes too
much, the safety of misunderstanding is too appealing, and the reason to commit to an
unforeseen goal is just not apparent. It is a sad comedy for the existential crisis to hit too
late, a lot of the opportunity to act on any new found meaning has already been stripped
from you. But to succeed through it is still key to a fulfilling existence.

So how can we prompt these existential crises more effectively, at a time most beneficial for
the individual? Some of us are introduced to them too early, without the worldly knowledge
to process them to a state of satisfaction. This would be best avoided. But to negate it
completely is challenging. Perhaps to best prepare ourselves for it, we should learn of it
early. To understand we are not alone in these feeling when they arise, and are in fact a
large part of most lives. Some form of child-friendly philosophy perhaps. This would be
much more useful as a base on which to build up to deeper forms of media, literature and
religious concepts. Or perhaps it is good to build us this bank of reference to contemplate
after the realisation. This can certainly emphasise the impact, and show how much you
might have been missing, a sort of eureka moment. The world opens up to you and your
mind can flourish.
