Properties of a magnet
All the magnets have two types of poles: north poles and south poles.
When you freely suspend a bar magnet in a horizontal position, the bar magnet come to rest
in a north-south direction, where the north pole of the magnet points to the north pole of the
Earth.
When the field lines are close together at a point, the point is said to have a strong magnetic
field.
Field lines NEVER cross over.
Name: Marks
4 To locate the S-pole of a compass, find the end of the compass needle that
A: attract to an iron B: points to the north
C: repels the S pole of a magnet D: attracts the S pole of a magnet
9 When the N pole of a magnet is [laced near the S pole of another magnet
A: the N pole will be attracted to S pole B: the S pole will be attracted to the N pole
C: there will be attraction between the two poles D: there will be repulsion between the two poles
11 Draw the magnetic field pattern around a bar magnet. Mark the direction of the magnetic field
12 Two bar magnets are fixed in the position shown. Draw the magnetic field pattern between the two
magnets.
