Introduction

EP300 EPON power meter is designed to suit FTTX
services, such as installation, testing and maintenance.
With the pass‐through measurement, EP300 is capable
of measuring all EPON signals simultaneously
(upstream signal with wavelength of 1310nm,
downstream signals with wavelengths of 1490nm and
1550nm). EP300 offers limit line sets analysis, data
storage function, and TOOLBOX software system to
manage the stored data. EP300 also has other
advantages, such as hand‐held design, light to carry and
easy to use for customers who are not necessarily
familiar with fiber optics.
EP300 EPON power meter is developed and

manufactured by Deviser Corporation for EPON testing
needs. No further notices will be made due to any
changes applied to the user manual. Sorry for
inconveniences. Deviser Corporation is not responsible

EP300 EPON POWER METER USER GUIDE
NOTICE
1. 3 Ni‐MH rechargeable batteries (1.2V/1.8AH) are
used in EP300. It is recommended to charge the
batteries with no more than 10 hours. Place the
batteries respecting the polarity as indicated.
2. Please charge the equipment using the original

factory charger; otherwise, Deviser is no
responsible for any damages caused by improper
use.
3. Place the dust cap back onto the optical

connector while it is not using. Also, clean the
connector periodically after uses.
4. When auto‐off function is activated, the

equipment will turn off automatically after 10
minutes of idle time. It may also shut‐down
completely if the voltage of the power supply is
not stable (< 3.3 V). Press to power up the
equipment could also deactivate the automatic

shut‐down function.
5. The equipment may be damaged if the measured
optical input power level is greater than the
maximum measuring range.
Deviser warrants this equipment against defects in

material and workmanship for a period of 12 months
from the date of original shipment. Deviser also
warrants that this equipment will meet applicable
specifications under normal use. Batteries are not
covered under the warranty.

2. Keypad Configuration

Hold and Release: to power on and off the

equipment.
Press: To turn on the data storage interfaces

and save the current measurement.
Press: To open the Pass/Fail MODE, based on

the current threshold value to analyze the
optical power status.

Press: To verify the current threshold value or

switch around limit line sets. 12 limit line sets
could be setup by TOOLBOX software system on
PC.
Press: To switch the unit between dBm and W.

Hold down the button could deactivate auto
shut‐down function.
Press: To switch to Relative Measurement
MODE. Hold down the button could display the
power reference values or modify the current
reference value.
Press: To view the total number of stored

measurements / to decrease number.
Press: To increase number.
Hold: To turn‐on the LED light, and release to

turn it off.

NOTE: When auto‐off function is activated, the

equipment will turn itself off after 10 minutes of idle

than 3.3V, EP300 will automatically shut‐down.

z Absolute Measurement MODE
Absolute Measurement MODE

will be switched on
automatically after powering
on the equipment.
The default power unit is dBm. Press shortly will
switch the unit between dBm and W.
NOTE: While the measured optical power level is

greater than the maximum testing level, “H” will be
displayed on LCD, however, while the measured
optical power level is less than the minimum testing
level, “L” will be displayed.

z Limit Line Set Selection
12 limit line sets could be selected, each of them
comprises 1310nm, 1490nm and 1550nm wavelengths
and has three specific threshold statuses which are pass,
warning and fail. Limit line sets can be used in Pass/Fail
MODE only. To view the limit line sets and select the
threshold value, please follow the following steps:
①Press to access the limit line set selection

interface directly and view the current limit line
set number. Then press and to
select the available limit line set.

②After selecting the limit line set, press to

open up the threshold values display interface.
Press to select wavelength and view the
detailed threshold value under the current
wavelength. Hold down for a few seconds
to activate threshold value setting and allow the
user to modify the current threshold value.
③Press to return to limit line set selection

interface after modifying all threshold values for
three different wavelengths.

z Pass/Fail MODE
Pass/Fail MODE status is determined according to the

current threshold value. The status is indicated directly
through LCD screen and
LED lights. Press to
switch mode between Pass
and Fail.

z Measured Data Storage
①Press to open the storage interface, and

store the current measurement. EP300 is capable
of storing up to 1800 measurements.
User could assign each

measurement a JOB Number,
ONT Number, OLT Number
and LOCATION as shown in
the figure:
②Press to switch between JOB NO., ONT NO.,
and OLT NO., and LOCATION (the option will blink
if it is being selected).
Press and to select number for the

current category.
③Press to return to JOB NO. category and

reset; Press to return to Absolute
Measurement MODE; however, the current

measurement will not be stored. At the storage

interface, hold down to store the current
measurement until the LCD displays “OK”; While
the storage has reached the maximum limit, it will
display “FAIL”, then user need to empty the
storage by using TOOLBOX software system.
NOTE: Under Absolute Measurement MODE press

will display the total number of all results that
have stored.

z Relative Measurement MODE
① At Absolute Measurement MODE, the unit of

power is dBm, press to switch to Relative
Measurement MODE and the unit is dB.
② Hold down to display current reference

power level, and it will return to the Relative
Measurement MODE after 4 seconds.

z General information
Deviser Corporation warrants this equipment against

defects in material and workmanship for a period of 12
months from the date of original shipment. Deviser
Corporation also warrants that this equipment will
meet applicable specifications under normal use.
However, the following items are not covered with the
warranty:
¾ The batteries as consumption goods are not

covered by the warranty.
¾ Deviser Corporation will charge a fee for replacing
optical connectors that were damaged due to
improper use or cleaning.

Any damaged resulting from improper use by not

following this user manual.
Warranty sticker has been removed; case has been

opened by unauthorized personnel or any damages
resulting from unauthorized modification of the
product.
Any damaged resulting from improper use or

installation, normal wear and tear, accident, abuse,
neglect, fire, water, lightning or other acts of nature.
Deviser Corporation shall not be liable for

damages resulting from the use of the
product, nor shall be responsible for any

failure in the performance of other items to

Deviser Corporation warrants this equipment against

defects in material and workmanship for a period of 12
months from the date of original shipment. Deviser
Corporation also warrants that this equipment will
meet applicable specifications under normal use.

Service and Repair
To send any equipment for service or repair:
① Please contact one of the Deviser Corporation’s

authorized service centers, support personnel will
determine if the equipment requires services,
repair or calibration.
② If possible, back up your data before sending the

unit for repair.
③ Pack the equipment in its original shipping

material. Be sure to include a statement or report
fully described the defect and the conditions
under which it was observed.
④ Please return the equipment to the address as

support personnel indicated.
⑤ After repair, support personnel will ship the

equipment back to you with a repair report. If the
equipment is not under warranty, you will be

invoiced for the cost appearing on this report.
Deviser Corporation will pay return‐to‐customer

shipping costs for equipment under warranty. Shipping
insurance is at your expenses.
All charges must be paied by user if all

specifications are applicable, when the unit is
send to Deviser for repair.
