Paragraph for Question no. 10 to 12
Let f(x) be a polynomial having a and b as its roots such that a>b. Then f(a) = f(b)=0. Also a
polynomial function is everywhere continuous and differentiable. Thus f(x) satisfies all the three
conditions of Role’s theorem. Consequently, three exists gÎ(a, b) such that f’(g) = 0, i.e. f’(x)=0 at
x = g’. In other words x = g is a root of f’(x) = 0. Thus algebraically Role’s theorem can be interpreted
as follows.
Between any two roots of a polynomial of f(x) there is always a root of its derivative f’(x).

This section contains 2 “match the following” type questions and you will
have to match entries in Column I with the entries in Column II. If the correct
matches are a-p, a-s, b-q, b-r, c-p, c-q and d-s, then the correctly bubbled 4
× 4 matrix should be as follows :

1. Match the following and write the correct pairs.
