 Students will be able to demonstrate understanding of the Battle of Little Big Horn by identifying cultural and
geographic factors, as well as analyzing their impact on the results of the battle
Evidence of Mastery (Measurable):
 Include a copy of the lesson assessment.
 Provide exemplar student responses with the level of detail you expect to see.
 Assign value to each portion of the response.

Identify and analyze how factors/culture/societies played a role in the battle

Instructional Input

Students will be presented with the scenario of the battle as a definitive event and must speculate the
results and encounter based on factors they were provided.
They are provided general knowledge and specific factors of both factions to observe and analyze.
Student applies previous knowledge to solve problem and speculate conclusion of the battle.

Guided

Teacher will facilitate while students observe
traits from both groups and use this
information to speculate how the traits
individually and collectively influenced the
encounter.
Independent practice

The Instructor brings the class back together,


and instructor addresses the speculations and
conclusions the students reached. Instructor
presents what occurred and how factors
played a role in the battle.

Closing/Student Reflection/Real-life connections:


 How will students summarize and state the significance of what they learned?
 Why will students be engaged?

They can apply knowledge to present foreign policy and further scrutinize interactions
between groups by both identifying factors and interests. Students can reflect on the
encounter and suggest how things could have been different, what alternative strategies
could have been conducted.
