Thanks to almighty God who has given his bless to us for finishing the English
paper assignment untitled “Cause and Effect” in using such …. that and So….. that.

We also wish to express our deep gratitude for those who have helped us in
completing this paper. This English paper contains the definition, expression, and
sentences of Cause and Effect in using ……..

We realized this paper is not perfect. But I hope it can be useful for us. Critics and
suggestions are needed here to make this paper be better in the future.

A. Definition of cause and effect
The cause and effect sentence is also called the causal sentence or causality
sentence is a sentence that is built by involving actions that make things happen and the
results of these actions. The easiest is characterized by conjunctions that indicate cause
and effect, for example: because, for, since, when, and as.

1. Cause

(noun) someone or something that makes something happen.

The cause of the flood was the massive of amount garbage thrown in the river.

(verb) an activity that makes things happen.

The massive amount of garbage thrown in the river caused the flood.

Effect

(noun) a change that is the result of an activity or cause.

The rain had an effect on her mood.

2. Affect

When the effect is used as a verb, the word changes to affect.

(verb) to produce an effect; cause something to happen.

Cause and Effect Sentences are often used

You can usually easily identify sentences that contain a causal relationship if in that sentence
there are words or phrases such as:

Due to

Because of

Owing to

Thanks to

As a consequence of
As a result of

Because

Since

As

For

etc.

B. Expression of cause and effect

To express causes and effects in English, the sentence or phrase above is usually followed
by a noun (noun) or verb (verb).

The causal sentence followed by noun

The word causation followed by noun or noun phrase usually uses words or phrases (signal word
/ phase) like :

Because of

Thanks to

As a result of

Due to

As a consequence of

Owing to

In the next example the noun or noun phrase will be underlined. The cause or cause is
always written after the causal phrase (word signal / phase) like the example above. Below is a
pattern commonly used:

3. As a result of the rain, we canceled the outing.

Signal phrase: As a result of

4. Dennis could not sing owing to his sore throat

Signal phrase: owing to

Cause: his sore throat

Effect : Dennis could not sing

5. She was dismissed as a consequence of her ignorance

Signal phrase: as a consequence of

Effect : She was dismissed

Sentence of causation followed by verb

The word causation followed by subjek + verb atau verb phrase usually using words or phrases
(signal word/phase) as:

D. Sentences of causation taken by nouns

So…that vs. Such…that

SO…THAT

So is placed before a modifier, an adjective or an adverb, to intensify its


quality or manner. This emphasis on the modifier expresses a remarkable
situation. This clause can stand alone as a sentence, or it can be paired
with that + a clause to express an effect (result) of the remarkable
situation mentioned in the main clause.

CAUSE EFFECT

SO + ADV / ADJ THAT + CLAUSE

The meteor storm that we watched it all night.


was sobeautiful (Adj)

The meteor storm that it went by in one week.


passed soquickly (Adv)

It was so / *very / *too amazing that we'll never forget it.

SUCH…THAT

Such is placed before a modifier and noun to intensify the quality of the
modifier. This emphasis on the noun phrase expresses a remarkable
situation. This clause can stand alone as a sentence or it can be paired
with that +a clause to express an effect (result) of the remarkable situation
mentioned in the main clause.

CAUSE EFFECT

SUCH + ADJ + NOUN THAT + CLAUSE

It was such a beautiful meteor storm that we watched it all night.

It was such a quick meteor storm that it passed by in one week.

It was such an amazing sight that we'll never forget it.


G.Application Of Cause And Effect In Conversation

Ali: Bella, can I ask your help please?

Bella: Sure, Ali. What happened?

Ali: Yesterday, my mother was sick so I had to take care of her in the hospital. As a result
of it, I didn’t finish my Math homework. If you don’t mind, could you teach me how to
answer some of the hard questions?

Bella: Of course! Maybe today after school?

Ali: Sounds good! Thanks a lot Bella.

Bella: No worries.

A. Conclusion
Cause and effect text is a type of paragraph that contains the analysis of the
author's cause and effect…… BY…… This paragraph begins with the causes
described at the beginning of the sentence and then drawn into one general conclusion
which is a result of the causes described above.

This paragraph cause and effect ……….model is often used in essay writing and
text explanation. This is because this model is considered to have a clear and
structured flow of ideas, so that readers easily understand when reading it.

B. Suggestions
The author is aware that in this writing there are still many short comings.
Therefore, the authors expect criticism and constructive suggestion for the
improvement USING …..of the writing of the writing of this paper.
