IDENTIFICATION OF PROBLEM
We came up with many ideas to have a look at, but with positive opinion of every

Conduct of community visit: On January 12th 2019, we visited the site at

10a.m with the expectation of having a fruitful conversation with the people living
in Mahatma Gandhi Housing and to find out the problems they are facing. There
was lot of curiosity at the beginning. When we got the permission to enter inside
the colony, Sanjay bhai who is the president of the colony started to give us
information about how they are facing different issues. After hearing from him,
our curiosity got converted into the feeling of pity. With the increasing of
problems quoted out by Sanjay bhai we found that the more group of people
started emerging with their problems. While taking interview with others Aditya
and Sahil went for observation to find out whether the problems stated by the
people are to be looked after or not and to find out the problem to be solved on a
prior level.

Questions asked during the interview: -

1. What are the problems now a days you are facing?
2. Have you informed the municipality to have a different drainage system?
3. How much maintenance do you pay each month?
4. How much does each house cost?
5. What are the other things you were promised but have not been provided?
6. Was the water supply been provided by the municipality by time?
7. What was the process for having a boring water supply in government
housing?
8. What are things you need to take care of?
9. Has any accident happened due to lack of speed breakers?
10. Had government promised you to give speed breakers?
Date: - January 17th, 2019

We went for the visit at 1:00 p.m. to work on the issue that we finalized and also
to cross check whether the problem stated in the earlier visit was really faced by
the people and to find some more detailed information about the problem, so for
that we met the gate keeper and discussed about it and also held an interview
based on that.

Questions asked during the interview: -

1. Need for speed breakers
2. How many speed breakers are required for now?
3. Has any action been taken regarding this?
4. Has any accident occurred till now?
5. What are the initiatives taken by the people for installing speed breakers?
6. Do the Corporation listens on the complain of water quality or not?
Problems identified:

1. Drainage line not been provided

Bases for identification of this problem

(i) They were having a drainage water over flow when they complained
many a time the municipality joined the line with another line and
didn’t provided them separate line.
(ii) Still the drainage waste was been seen on the road
2. No speed breaker provided
Bases for identification of this problem
(i) They were promised to have a speed breaker but although they
appealed for it many times no action is been taken by the
government. Many times, people where been saved by having an
accident and that has become a major problem for them to look on
for their children safe too.
(ii) Many children were playing and bikes where been drive in high
speed
(iii) There is place given for speed breakers to get install but no speed
breaker was been observed.
3. Boring water with high TDS (Total dissolved solids)

Bases for identification of this problem

(i) They were not provided water from the municipality so they decided
to have boring, even the tender was been passed but no work was
been done by the contractor so by holding many riots by the people
the contractor was been changed and the boring was been built but
the TDS in water is much high as 750mg/liter.
(ii) Water to be drunk has TDS between the 300 to 600mg/liter. 600 to
900mg/liter and above 900mg/liter is very poor quality and
unhealthy water. So as per this the water quality in government
buildings is poor and is not reliable to drink. Even they are facing the
problems in blockage of taps due to hard water.
(iii) The people out there in interview were showing many problems
occurred due to this high TDS but as the permission was not been
granted to visit any house, we were not able to observe the issue.
(iv) Due to lack of permission to enter the houses we were not able to
click the photographs.

different atmosphere in the old age house. When we got the permission to enter
inside the house, Mansiben who is the incharge of the Old age house started to
give us information about how they are facing different issues. After hearing from
her, our curiosity got converted into the feeling of sadness. While taking interview
with Mansiben, Sarvar and Krupa went for observation to find out whether the
problems stated by Mansiben are to be looked after or not and to find out the
problem to be solved on a prior level. We also had a small conversation with the
people staying there, but due to security and personal emotions they refused to
give the interview.
Questions asked during the interview: -
1. When was this house converted into Old age House?
2. How many old people are staying now?
3. Do the relative of the old people come to visit?
4. How do you entertain these people?
5. What are the initiatives taken by you for taking care of the old people?
6. How do you accommodate these many people?

Problems identified:

1 Lack of Space -There are day to day increasing in numbers of old age people
and there are less rooms to accommodate. They have an intention to take
care of each and every member staying there and can’t say no for further
admission.

Bases for identification of this problem

I. There are 32 old age people staying in the house. There are total of 6
rooms and in each room more than 5 people are residing.
II. In the short conversation with the old age people, the major
problem reflected was lack of space.
III. Photography was not allowed inside the premises.

2 Lack of entertainment- The major day at the old age home gets boring for
the residents due to lack of activities.

Conduct of community visit: On January 13th 2019, we visited the site at 1 pm

with the expectation of having a fruitful conversation with the people involved in
Smiley Group and to find out the problems they are facing. There was somewhat
happy culture in the NGO. When we got the permission to talk with the divyang
members who are the part of the group we came to know what real problems do
the divyangs faces other than the normal public. Special thanks to Mr. Jay Gohel
who is the in charge of the Smiley Group to provide his time for the conversation
and letting us know the problems faced by their group.

Questions asked during the interview: -

1) Amount of expenses behind the whole group?
2) How the volunteers work for the needful people?
3) What are the problems faced by the group to help the needful people?
4) How do they take care for the Divyang Community?
5) How do they manage the schooling of Divyang people?
6) How many categories of Divyang are there in your group?

Problems identified:
1) Lack of Funds -There are day to day increasing in the number of people
joining this group and as a result current funding scheme is not fulfilling
their requirements. As a result it affects directly to the divyang and other
communities.

Bases for identification of this problem

I. There are total of 750 people who are getting benefits from the
Smiley group and the funds/sponsors are less. On an average per
member gets a package of benefit of only 150 rs/week.
II. In the short conversation with the smiley group, the major problem
reflected was lack of deliverables like food, books, etc.

2) Training of Group members for Divyang People- In our visit , we came to

know that the group people lack knowledge how to train and care the
divyang people. There were less people for caring the Divyang people.

Bases for identification of this problem

I. The divyang people were not getting trained due to lack of divyang
teachers. Divyang teachers fee was not affordable by the Smiley
group as sponsors are very less.
II. The divyang people gets less facility then the normal public who are
getting benefits from the group.
Roles and responsibility of each member:
Interview and interaction: Marnil, Aditya, Abhishek, Sahil
Observation: Krupa and Sarvar
Noting down the points: Marnil
Problem selected: (VUDA HOUSING from Community visit 1) Boring
water with high TDS (Total dissolved solids)

Reason:

By seeing the seriousness in the issues faced by the people it is important to

have clean drinking water. As water is one of the main reasons for many
health issues like allergy, diarrhea, cardiovascular diseases, cancer, Alzheimer,
etc. Due to the quality of the water, the appliances like water purifiers, RO,
etc. gets damaged before their design period.

The people living out there are looking for the solution but are not able to
find it due to lack of knowledge and idea and also lack of communication
between government and the society.

As per the issues that came forward and the observation held. On that basis
as well as the demand of the people, we have decided to give them a
household solution for the treatment of water as well as providing a solution
through the government via proper communication.
