2 players
(see action variant for 2-6 players)

One player is a detective whose job is to find replicants – synthetics posing as humans –
and execute them. The detective interviews a subject – the other player. The subject is
either a replicant or human, at random. Detectives ask questions to determine the identity
of the subject. Human subjects must answer honestly; reps must lie.
The round is usually decided by one of the players shooting the other.
This is not called execution.
It is called retirement.

human cards.

How to play a round:

1. The subject takes one identity card at random to determine if they are a replicant or
human. Only the subject looks at the card.

2. A gun is placed on the table in front of each player. Guns may not be touched until you
are ready to shoot. Players may not fake going for their gun with sudden movements.
3. The detective takes the top card and asks the question written on it to the subject.
Humans must answer honestly, replicants must lie. No single word responses - you must
explain the reasons for your answer.

4. At any time during the round, a detective may either dismiss the subject if they think
they are human (“You may go.”), or pick up their gun and shoot the subject if they think
they are a replicant.

6. Replicant subjects may shoot detectives at anytime. If both players shoot, the player
who shot first wins the shootout. Be quick on the draw.

7. Human subjects may not use their gun.

8. Detectives can ask a maximum of three questions per round. The round is not finished
until either a dismissal or a shooting.

9. After a dismissal or a shooting, the subject reveals their card and scoring takes place:

All the detectives Are gathered round the chief’s place for a few drinks after another hard
week. We’re through our first bottle of Tsing-tao when someone suggests we put the chief
on the machine for a few laughs. We fire it up. It stops being funny when the needle starts
pointing in the wrong direction and keeps on going. The chief takes one look at our faces,
then reaches for his gun. I beat him to it. Looks like we need a new chief.
But first we need to figure out if any more synthetics have infiltrated our ranks. We pour
out more Tsing-tao and set up the machines to test all of us, all at once …

All players are detectives, but some may secretly be replicants who have infiltrated the
force. Players take turns asking each other hypothetical questions to determine each
other’s identity. Humans must answer honestly; replicants must lie.
The round will be decided in a bloody shootout.

How to play a round:

1. Everyone takes a detective identity card at random to determine if they are a rep or
human. Only they look at the card.

2. A gun is placed on the table in front of each player. If you don’t have toy guns, use a
banana or some other prop. Guns may not be touched until you are ready to shoot. Players
may not fake going for their gun with sudden movements.

3. The first detective takes the top card and asks the question written on it to a player of
their choice. Humans must answer honestly, replicants must lie. No single word responses
- you must explain the reasons for your answer. Each detective can ask a maximum of
three questions per round.

5. At any time during the round, a detective may pick up their gun and shoot one of the
other detectives. Be cautious, this may indicate your own identity to other players.
Multiple shootings can and will occur. After you shoot, you cannot shoot again until another
question has been asked. Dead players cannot shoot, even if they shoot just a fraction of a
second after they were shot.

6. The round ends when only one player remains, or when all the surviving players agree
that they are the same faction with a handshake. Cards are revealed and scoring happens:

Shot someone of an opposite faction +1 point

Shot someone on the same faction -1 point

Survived the round +1 point

Survived with a member of the opposite faction -1 point

At the end of three rounds the player with the highest score is the winner.
