UNIT 16

GEOGRAPHICAL FEATURES OF COUNTRIES IN THE WORLD

The earth consists of ocean and continent. There are so many countries spread in those continents. so, in this unit,
you will learn about identifying geographical features of countries in the world. identifying means describe the position of a
certain country based on its appearance on the earth surface. it can be called as report text. Pay attention to the following
example and explanation:
(Bumi terdiri dari samudera dan benua. ada banyak negara yang tersebar di benua-benua itu. Jadi, dalam unit ini, kamu akan belajar tentang
mengindetifikasi ciri geografis negara di dunia. Mengidentifikasi maksudnya menjelaskan letak suatu negara berdasarkan penampakannya di permukaan
bumi. Itu bisa disebut sebagai Teks Report. Perhatikan contoh dan penjelasan di bawah ini:)

Indonesia Title

Indonesia is one of some countries in Asia continent. It is a country which its area General Classification
consists of islands. It is also located in a strategic or world cross position.

Geographically, Indonesia has many islands and archipelagos. From those islands, Description:
Sumatera, Java, Sulawesi, Kaimantan, and Irian jaya are Indonesia’s big islands. It is situated
between two continents, Asia and Australia, and two oceans, the Pacific and Hindian ocean. In Parts
the north, Indonesia is bordered by Malaysia, Singapore and Philipine. In the south, it is
bordered by Australia continent. In the west, it is bordered by Hindia ocean. Meanwhile in the
east, it is bordered by Papua New Ginea.

Based on those geographical position which is laid along equator, Indonesia’s season Season
is divided into two; a wet and dry season. Dry season falls between April and October while
wet season is between November and March.

Indonesia spans a variety of landscapes,from tropical forest, high volcanic mountain, Quality
lake,and dry savannah. It also becomes a country in the world cross position or traffic lane of
the world as International trading lane. It primarily gives advantages for Indonesia in economic
or trading sector.

. Report text is a result of an observation about things, natural phenomenon, social and culture. The purpose is to t
describe the way things are or in general. (Teks report adalah sebuah hasil observasi tentang benda-benda, fenomena alam, sosial, dan budaya.
Tujuannya untuk menjelaskan suatu benda apa adanya atau secara umum.)
Text Structure (kerangka teks:)
General Classification  it is a general statemen about something will bi described: definition,classification (berupa
pernyataan umum tentang hal yang akan dijelaskan; definisi, klasifikasi/pengelompokan).
Description  description about parts, qualities, and others which are results of observation. (penjelasan tentang bagian,
kualitas, dan sebagainya yang merupakan hasil dari observasi)

Language features (Ciri kebahasaan:)


Use Present Tense, example: Indonesia is one of some countries in Asia continent
Use linking verb, example: is, are, has, have .....etc.
Use Passive Voice (kalimat pasif) example: It is situated , it is bordered by
Passive sentence comes from active transitive sentence. it is an active sentence which has object. (kalimat pasif berasal dari
kalimat aktif transitive. itu adalah kalimat aktif berobjek.)
ACTIVE VOICE PASSIVE VOICE

Subject + V1 (s/es) + Object Object + Tobe (is/am/are) + V3 + by + Subject

Malaysia is a kingdom country which forms federation. It is one of country near Indonesia that also involve in the area of South Asia.
There are two major parts of Malaysia namely Peninsular Malaysia or people call it Semenanjung Malaysia to the west and East
Malysia to the east. The east zone is situated in area of Kalimantan island which includes Sabah and Serawak. Both west and east of
Malaysia are separated by China South Sea.
The confines of Malaysia such as: Thailand, China South Sea, and Brunei Darussalam are in the north; The Sulu and Sulawesi sea are
in the east;The Malaka strait is in the west; Indonesia and Singapura are in the south.
The landscapes of east Malaysia are mountain range which dominate in east Malaysia, rivers, mountains, beach plain which is
narrow and marshy. While the landscapes of west Malaysia are low plains which dominates in the west zone, rivers and some mountain
range.
The seasons of Malaysia are Dry and Wet season. The rain falls between November and April which is influenced by the vapour
from China South Sea. Meanwhile the Dry happens between June and September.

Experience in Indonesian is Pengalaman. it means something that the people get in their life either it is bad or
good, forgetable or unforgetable. But every experiences certainly give a valuable lesson for the one who experienced it. in
this unit you will learn how to share your experiences in the form of Recount text. pay attention to the explanation below!
(Experience dalam bahasa Indonesia adalah pengalaman. itu merupakan sesuatu yang orang-orang dapatkan dalam kehidupan mereka baik itu baik
ataupun buruk, terlupakan maupun tidak terlupakan. Tapi setiap pengalaman tentu memberi pelajaran berharga bagi seseorang yang mengalaminya.
Dalam unit ini, kamu akan belajar tentang cara berbagi pengalaman dalam bentuk teks Recount. perhatikan penjelasan berikut!)

Recount is a text that telling the readers about someone’s experiences. the purpose is to entertain and informing the readers
(Recount adalah teks yang bercerita tentang pengalaman seseorang. tujuannya adalah untuk menghibura dan
menginformasikan pada pembaca.).
Structure:
Orientation introduction of experience
Events  tell the sequence of incidents
Reorientation  the writer’s impressions (optional)
Language features:
use past tense
Example:

I think,my first memories started when I was about five years old and started school Orientation
at the time in kindergarten.

There was a little boy called Hafi in the same class. He used to pull my hair when Events
the teacher was not looking. I was frightened to him because it was unusual environment for
me.

one day, I hit him on the head with a drinking bottle and he began to cry. The teacher
was angry with me. I remember her saying,”A little girl may not do things like that!”. But I
didn’t feel sorry at all at the time.

Since then, Hafi never pulled my hair anymore. he has become a good friend up to Reorientation
now. It was such an unforgetable childhood. I laugh while remembering it.
