STP inspection report: STP capacity: 120KLD MBBRect the

1.Sludge tank cleaning in progress.sludge formation is excessive and floats on top.Sludge should be
disposed off more frequently till system is stable.Stagnant /septic sludge will tend to float and will
affect the solid/liquid separation

2.Aeration tank operation observed: aeration functioning normally. However DO level is to be

checked. Aeration liquid color is black instead of dark brown.This indicates insufficient DO in the
aeration tank.

Settling of MLSS is slow and supernatant is not clear but dusty.This shows insufficient digestion of
pollutants

Possible causes: Fresh air not available at Airblower suction.Suction in side acoustic enclosure.Air
blower suction :Fresh air connection can be directly connected by pipe to outside atmosphere.This
will increase DO in aeration tank. Air discharge pressure and blower specification to be checked to
dterine if back pressure is affecting the blower.Back pressure is also possible due to diffuser design.

Aeration tank volume in drawing is given as 42 kl.This capacity is to be checked.The aeration tank
HRT should be 8 hrs or more.

The system flow rate is set @ 6 M3/hr This indicates HRT of 6-7 hrs in the aeration tank.The HRT can
be increased by joining the filtered water tank( and UF tank ) to the aeration tank to provide
sufficient HRT.Filtered water tank can be constructed anew in the basement next to The UF plant.
Existing UF tank can be used or it can be constructed a new outside near UF plant side.

Aration tank overflow pie should be covered with proper wire mesh to prevent media from escaping
into clarifier tank.

3.MLSS level in Aeration tank to be maintained at 2000-4000 maximum ( SVI). Extra sludge to be
disposed off.

4.Filtration and UF: these systems are getting choked since clarified water is colored and with Higher
TSS.

4.Bar screen chamber: Bar screen cleaning rake not available.There is a gap below the screen which
allows incoming waste water to fall directly into the collection/equalisation tank.

The gap below the screen has to be sealed to ensure that sewage does not bye-pass the screen .

Manual Rake should be provided for cleaning the screen regularly to avoid choking and overflow. In
the bar screen chamber.

Motorised automatic bar screen device is available which will cost Rs. 4 – 5 lacs. This device requires
regular backwash.
IMORTANT POINTS TO ADDRESS FOR SETTING RIGHT THE STP

1. PROPER BAR SCREEN MAINTENANCE to avoid clogging of transfer pumps and accumulation
of debris in collection tank.
2. SETTING RIGHT AERATION SYSTEM: Fresh air line to air blower suction. Check airblower
specs ( disch pressureratings and actual pressure at discharge durng operation
3. DO check in aeration tank. DO should be 2.0 ppm
4. INCREASING HRT OF AERATION; : joining filration & UF tank if required.
5. MAINTANING SLUDGE HANDLING: propr recycle of sludge toaeration nly to required
level.Dispose off THE EXCESS.DO NOT ALLOW SLUDGE TO STAGNATE.
