There are many tips to help you build your personal online brand but now, I just focus on 5 tips
that can ensure your online branding be working for you.

1. Assess Your Strengths - Đinh

To begin the process of building a personal brand, each person should take an honest assessment
of his/herself to create a compelling biography. However, there will be a difference between the
way we value ourselves and the way people around us perceive us. Therefore, to get a proper
perspective, ask your friends to complete an anonymous survey. Ask them questions like, “What
five words would you use to describe me?” Another one to try is, “If you didn’t know what I did
for a living, what would you guess that I did?” From that, indentify who you are, what your
strengths are in order to focus your brand on those strengths and try to eliminate your defects.

2. Have A Home Base:

Once you have a clear picture of yourself, the next step is to create an online home base.

It could be in the form of blog, website, or social media platforms but you should not try to master
all tools. Pick one or two site(s) to focus on, and delete any old accounts that you are no longer
using. As far as I can see, the most popular online tools are in the form of social media because
they are completely free and easy to use.

For example:

Use Facebook: Facebook is one of the most popular and biggest social media that most of the
people worldwide use and access everyday. The total number of facebook users in Vietnam of
2018 were 58 million. It provides us with smart and convenient features that help us connect to the
outside world without going anywhere but stay at home or office only; morever, people nowadays
can work and study or go shopping online at home through Facebook.
Use LinkedIn: LinkedIn is yet another Internet home where you can promote your brand.
LinkedIn allows you to put your accomplishments out there for the world (and potential clients) to
see. Also, if you set up a LinkedIn profile, it will be one of the first things that people see when
they search for you online, so it’s another easy way to exercise control over your digital profile.

3. Begin building your professional profile:

Whatever the networks you will be using, make sure all of your information (name, contact...) is
complete and accurate. To start with an account name, a name shouldn’t be heavily used by other
people already, especially not people who are in the industry that you want to be in. You should
choose a name that's relatively easy to remember, easy to spell and have the same account name
everywhere so that it's easy for people to find you. One important thing of your profile is avatar,
use a professional picture. Don’t take a selfie in the bathroom or cut an ex-boyfriend out of a photo
that you looked good in. Also, make sure your banner is the correct size and that it is on brand.

4. Create & Curate Engaging Content

Reposting others’ content is always a smart thing to do, but it’s not all you should be doing to build
your personal brand. You also need to share content that you’ve written yourself, to demonstrate
your expertise within your industry. This type of content shows you have knowledge of the latest
trends in that industry and how it is evolving. Don’t be afraid to occasionally talk about your own
achievements, or even add engaging tidbits about your personal life (topics such as travel,
hobbies,... are suitable). After all, social media is about individuals first. Sharing some of this
information provides your audience with a glimpse of who you really are and what you’re about.

5. Shape Your Brand Voice, Image & Tone Consistent

Following your brand guidelines helps to control people’s perceptions to you. You can damage a
reputation if what you show up with content or images that don’t match up with your brand’s voice.
For ex: If a popular political commentator suddenly and radically switched parties, no doubt he or
she would lose a lot of fans overnight.
- Stick to your defined persona is important, choose a tone brand that is extension of who you are.
- You must also remain consistent with your ideas and the ways you present them among sites so
that you’re memorable and trustworthy.
