lambrate

Through the SWOT analysis of the Ventura district and of the ex Innocenti factory in the Lambrate industrial area, we have chosen the
most suitable place based on the idea of circular economy that we want to apply in order to be able to re-function a piece of the industrial
heritage of the suburb of Milan. The primary aim is to revitalize an abandoned industrial building from 1993 and re-give a function to
a place that during the 20th century gave birth to an icon of Italian design: the Lambretta scooter. The ex Innocenti factory seems the
perfect space to fit a new urban agricolture production plan, through the aquaponic system.

OUR VISION
“From Aquaponics to daily life” project fits in a widely studied and initiated sector all
over the world.

It participate in a series of politics and conditions, through management tools to

guarantee the inclusion of economical, social and cultural resources.

The constant technology developing and the productions of goods utilised in the world
improvement are simultaneously linked to the resources decrease and to the waste
material production without any possibility to be reused.

The identification of the three main categories involved in this new technology (design,
resource and business) makes aquaponics a more suitable and real operation, related
to the possibility of being declined in material assets production.

Using the aquaponics technologic process, based on a cyclic production itself, it is

possible to expand the involved fields range that may benefit from a new production
system, to start laying the groundwork for many products working process
amendment in several commercial sections.
In particular, food and hemp are considered.
The first one directly involves ichthyic fauna and agriculture; the second one handles
the textile, construction and cosmetic fields.

To update the process explained, stakeholders have been identified to develop this
new frontier production.
Embroiling each part of the pyramidal project it can be created another cyclic process
that ends with the utilisation of waste material and further resources production.
In that way it can be possible to restart from the aquaponic system to begin a new
loop.
There are moments in the history that seems to rejoin and fulfilled, putting every thing
in its own place.

The diagram represents all the actors involved in the project from its conception to its realization and to its maintenance. The starting idea is
proposed by Orbit-Innova that wants to give a new life to waste throught a circular economy system in order to be involved in fashion, textiles,
food, cosmetics, architecture fields. We can classify the stakeholder in active and/or passive. In the first category we can find all the subjects
that make possible the ralization of the project idea. Each one of them has a different importance and, based on their field of competence,
they are choosen to collaborate in specific moments of the developement . Instead the passive actors are the ones that will use the final
product. We identify also stakeholders thatcorrespond to both categories and that will collaborate during the developement and that will
make profit from the project. 18

The actors take part to the project in different phases and with different intensity. At the beginning we found all the stakeholders that develop
the idea of the project, and that controls all its steps until the realization and also after the construction for its management, like the customer
and the first sponsors. After the phase of ideation all the actors that are involved are necessary for the project realization and to allow the
concrete development of the ideas and the project. They are the consultant that have the duty of analize all the architectural, scentific and
economical aspects. The municipality that will give the founds in order to achieve goals on reuse, redevelopment and new use of spaces.

those to whom the project is really addressed in double ways: they’ll use final products but they also live the spaces of the Innocenti factory.

in the early stages of the project is to direct the buisness in good direction according to the final users
values.

Aquaponics Production

The major part of the building is dedicated to the coltivation

through aquaponics system. There are vertical and floating
coltivation systems and fish breeding tanks. In the upper
corner there is the logistic area and offices.
25
Research Lab.

In this area researchers will constantly propose new ideas

and develop innovative solutions in aquaponic, coltivation
and production fields. The spaces reserved to research
are: a dedicated part of coltivation, a connected laboratory
and offices.
26
Restoration and Coworking area

The central area of our building is dedicated to a more

dynamic space. This areas are destinated also to the public in
order to let people work and eat in a innovative atmosphere.
Developed on two levels, the dispisition allows a more
private and quiet space.
27
Market

The shop area is organized like a classical market where

it’s possible to find all the primary and secondary goods
obtained from the aquaponic system.
28
Connection

The aquaponics coltivation system needs a close envelope

in order to be protected by bacteria and to maintain the
right temperature.
29
DESIGN STRATEGIES

MEMORY
The project has as its starting point the redevelopment of
the area keeping the external envelope. In this way the
original structure is enhanced, also saving on the high
demolition costs.

STRUCTURE
The architectural intervention is designed to not burden
the existing structure. This is made possible through the
construction of structurally independent volumes within
the sheds.

SUSTAINABILITY
The construction of independent volumes makes it possi-
ble to have different temperatures inside the building, so
as to be able to considerably limit the waste of energy for
heating and cooling.

FLEXIBILITY
By using different sizes of independent volumes it is
possible to obtain a wider possibility of disposing of
different functions. It also increases the relational quality
between the spaces themselves.
