Outdoor Skating
Skating on Kinsmen Lake is a community tradition. There’s no set date for the lake to open – we need to
ensure the ice is thick enough to keep from breaking. In the past it’s opened as early as the beginning of
December (2012), but there have been years it hasn’t opened until mid January (2017).

This year we haven’t seen enough cold days to freeze Kinsmen Lake for skating. We’ve also temporarily
lowered the lake level to help with nearby storm drain repairs, creating cracks and folds in the ice near the
edge of the lake.

The Town is working to open the outdoor rink on the Ag Grounds as soon as possible. We’ll also keep you
updated on the status of Kinsmen Lake. For now, please stay safe and keep off the ice at Kinsmen Lake.
