Enduring Understanding: Poetry is a universal phenomenon exists along human’s civilization from primitive to developed
nation, from spell to drive away evil soul to conventional one (from oral to written), enjoyed by everyone, a form of entertainment
and understanding and never dies. Poetry is a type of literature based on the interplay of words and rhythm. It often employs
rhyme and meter (a set of rules governing the number and arrangement of syllables in each line). In poetry, words are strung
together to form sounds, images, and ideas that might be too complex or abstract to describe directly.

Essential Questions:

1. In the 21st century, how important poems are in human lives?

INTEGRATION (third session)

Points to be emphasized:

 Poetry is so important because it

helps us understand and appreciate
the world around
us. Poetry's strength lies in its ability
to shed a “sideways” light on the
world, so the truth sneaks up on
you. And besides, poetry teaches us
how to live.
 Poetry is a literary work in verse
writing of high quality, great beauty,
a piece of art, with emotional
sincerity or intensity, a graceful
expression showing imagination and
deep feeling with beautiful and
elegant quality. It is a profound
insight that enables a poet to
idealize reality and to see the things
or situations in a particular way, to
express his feelings of his own
accord and to represent them in
such a way as to delight the
readers.
 In whatever form or a language
the poetry is written, poetry is
after all poetry with an objective
of consoling, encompassing a
great power and appeal to delight
the reader while heightening an
awareness of various situations
and discussing the aspects of life.
This leads us to understand and
interpret what has been written,
with what objective so that the
purpose of a poem or specific
verses may be served well .

Closure:
Poetry is one of the most powerful forms of writing because it takes the english language, a
language we believe we know, and transforms it. Suddenly the words do not sound the same or
mean the same. The pattern of the sentences sound new and melodious. It is truly another
language exclusively for the writer and the reader. No poem can be read in the same way,
because the words mean something different to each of us. For this reason, many find poetry and
elusive art form. However, the issue in understanding poetry lies in how you read poetry. Reading
it logically results in an overall comprehension, rigid and unchanging. However, reading it
emotionally allows the nuances and paradoxes to enter our understanding. Anyone who writes
poetry can attest, you have to write it with an open heart. So as a reader, we must do the same.
All poems are insights into the most intimate inner workings of the writer's mind and soul. To read
it coldly and rationally would be shutting the door on the relationship that the writer is attempting
to forge with you. Opening your heart to poetry is the only way to get fulfillment from it.
Off-school Practice:
Choose one poem and critique it using any literary criticism on your own choice. Place it in a long bond
paper.
