 ABSTRACT

Urban Development Planning is traditionally seen as an expert system with little room for ‘soft’
values and interests based on feelings rather than fact. At the same time, the final product of the
planning process, the constructed environment, is a habitat for a wide variety of people with
equally diverse wants and needs. The question is, how well does planning incorporate the needs,
wants, and visions of living and future inhabitants while at the same time raising the economic
growth.

This report focuses on the Salient Features of the Development Plan created by AUDA for
Ahmedabad, the largest city of Gujarat State and the seventh-largest metropolis in India,. The
role of AUDA is explained and its functions and objectives are stated. It also analyses the future
Demographic and Aerial growth of Ahmedabad city and indicates to what extent the city will
grow. The future land use pattern and transportation scenario of the expanding Ahmedabad city
is also studied with respect to the population growth. Besides this, the growth of urban sprawls
around the city is examined, and the solution to it is given.
