II. OBJECTIVES

After performing the exercise, the student should be able to:

1. To learn about the internal combustion engine;


2. To know the basic principle of diesel and gasoline engine;
3. To identify the different parts of diesel and gasoline engine.
4. To know the advantages and disadvantages of diesel and gasoline engine as
a sources of power;
5. To determine the uses of diesel and gasoline engine in agriculture.
6. To familiarized with the parts of internal combustion engine.

IV. PROCEDURE

A. Answer the following guide questions.

1. Do some research or visit the library, internet and/or read other reference materials
and know about internal combustion engine.
2. Discuss the basic operating principle of internal combustion engine (provide
a diagram)
3. Discuss the comparison of 4-stroke and 2-storke cycle engine (provide a diagram)
4. Provide a diagram of internal combustion engine that showing its parts.
5. Discuss the differences of diesel and gasoline engine.
6. Determine and discuss the advantages and disadvantages of diesel and
gasoline engine in comparison with other existing source of farm power.
7. Discuss the importance of diesel and gasoline engine in the field of agricultural
engineering.
8. Provide a diagram showing parts and function of the following systems in internal
combustion engine.
a. Air Cleaner System
b. Lubrication System
c. Cooling/Staring System
d. Crankshaft System,
e. Intake/Exhaust System
f. Compression Ignition
g. Electrical and Ignition System
