Dear Students,

We welcome you in CS101 (Introduction to Computing) course on the behalf of


Virtual University of Pakistan. We hope that you will enjoy studying this course.

Following are some guidelines which are important and will help you a lot during
this course:

Most importantly you have to check 'Announcement Page' daily. Also in case of any
confusion, your first point of contact should be 'Announcement Page' to see whether
that issue is discussed on it or not.

If you have any problem related to current lecture, put your questions
on Moderated Discussion Board (MDB). But before putting any question, please
make it sure that your question is not already posted by some other student. You
should read already replied MDBs of other students as well. If you understand all the material,
discussed in the lecture then no need to put any other extra material on MDB. It is non graded
activity.

Watch your video lectures and read handouts carefully. The

video lectures are just for your practice. These assignments


are non-graded. However, graded assignments will be uploaded on VU-LMS. Prior
announcements will be made for those assignments. You have to keep visiting VU-LMS
announcement page of your course in this regard.

To post any question that is related to general discussion, assignments and exam,
use email facility. You need not to send email at altaf@vu.edu.pk Send your emails
at cs101@vu.edu.pk

University has not any policy to provide you previous midterm and final term paper for exam, so
there is not any link available on vu website. First 22 lectures out of 45 will be included in
your Mid Term exam. The exam will consist approx. 50% of MCQS and 50% of descriptive type
questions. You are required to study with full concentration and do not skip any topic to have
good grades in this course. The paper will consist of multiple choice questions and descriptive
questions of 3 and 5 marks. You will have to watch and study the video lectures, course handouts
and the reference books in order to properly prepare for the exams.
Your final term exam pattern will be same as to mid-term exam (Half Subjective + Half
Objective). MCQs will be of 1 mark each and short questions of 3 and 5 marks will be
included. All lectures from 1 to 45 are included in the final term exam. You have to study all the
lectures from lecture 1 to 45 in order to prepare yourself for the final term exam. However, only
20% will be from first 22 lectures.

Note: This subject demands your full concentration and attentiveness in each
lecture. We recommend you to focus on all the topics on each lecture with your
full attention, do practice all the examples/exercises in lectures/ (recommended
books) so that you can fulfill objectives of this course. We are always here to help

On behalf of “Virtual University of Pakistan” we warmly welcome to all of you
enrolled in the course “Islamic studies (ISL201)”. This is always an exciting and
inspirational time as we welcome new students to our departments and
university. We hope that you will enjoy by learning Islamic concepts, and find it
useful in implementing its knowledge for the understanding of all kind issues.

 This subject demands your full concentration in each lecture. We recommend


that if you properly listen to all lectures, read handouts, then not only you can
fulfill the objectives of this course but you can generate good inferences as
well. We are always here to help you in this regard.
 In this course your knowledge will be tested through quizzes, graded
discussion boards (GDB), Assignments, mid-term and final term
examinations. All the testing instruments will not only test your knowledge
but also provide you the opportunity to face the challenges in the practical life
ahead. You can only benefit from the test instruments if you attempt them by
using your own skills.
 To excel in the course and have better grades, you are supposed to be self-
responsible and regular in your studies. Furthermore, you are advised to:

 Do follow the lecture schedule strictly and remain updated with


it.

 Keep visiting VULMS regularly. It will provide you the complete


guidance throughout the semester regarding various activities i.e.
assignments, quizzes, GDBs etc.

 Do explore VULMS to get advantage of all the available


resources i.e. FAQs, glossary.

 Do not hesitate to use “Moderated Discussion Board (MDB)” to


post your lecture related queries. Do not post
messages/comments on this interface.

 Attempt the quizzes and assignments with in stipulated time.
