Year One: 2019-2020
Personal and Ethical Foundations: Work on setting stronger boundaries for myself and with others. This will help create a healthy foundation before I being my next professional position o Recognize my limitations and when I need to take a step back and care for myself. I’ve become better at recognizing this piece, but need to be better at acting on this o Respond to work related incidents during work hours. When I leave for the day, work things can wait until tomorrow when I’m in the office again o Each day spend time doing one thing for myself, no matter how big or small (i.e. nap, read, take a bath, go for a walk) Law, Policy, and Governance: Enhance my knowledge and experience around higher education law and policy o Stay up-to-date on current issues affecting higher educaiton o Conduct informational interviews with current and previous university conduct coordinators o Picking an article or study to read around student conduct or higher education law/policy once a week o Independent study will allow me the opportunity to gain insight through shadowing conduct meetings o After going through the Seattle University conduct board hearing training, serve on academic/board hearings during the 2019-2020 term Begin job search by consulting mentors and partaking in mock interviews for practice Personal and Ethical Foundations: Reflect upon my values and what I want from my next institution Continue to expand and build my professional network through conducting informational interviews with professionals on campus Attend TPE in March Update LinkdIn account to reflect my current professional identity Revisit my action plan and make adjustments as needed
Year Two: 2020-2021 Year Three: 2021-2022
Transition into a full-time Student Affairs role Human and Organizational Resources: Continue to Gain professional experience as an Area Coordinator connect with professionals and campus partners for Residence Life through informational interviews or coffee chats Maintain relationship with mentors Join an institutional committee Human and Organizational Resources: Connect with Attend a local or reginal conference for professional professionals to conduct informational interviews to development and networking opportunities gain a deeper understanding of institution types, Assessment, Evaluation, and Research: Seek out functional areas, and increase professional network opportunities to get involved with department or Seek out new mentors at my new institution campus assessment Enhance my public speaking and presentation skills Reflect on my time in my new position. Assess by seeking out opportunities to take lead on sharing areas for further development and interest out with team/group initiatives Update LinkdIn account to reflect my current Social Justice and Inclusion: Engage in social justice professional identity and diversity trainings and workshops Revisit my action plan to create new goals for the Join a professional organization (NASPA, ACPA, next 2-5 years etc.) Revisit NASPA/ACPA competencies to see what areas I still want to grow in Revisit my action plan and make adjustments as needed
