CHAPTER I
PRELIMINARY
A. Background
In this modern era, we often see one or a group of middle school (JHS,SHS,VHS)
children playing their smartphones or communicating using these tools, whether in the form of
oral or written. Not only at school, on the street, even at home, even though the device is very
close to the owner. The tool is a breakthrough from several breakthroughs included in the ICT
section in the modern era. ICT or (Information, communication, and technology) has made a
large contribution in various fields in particular to improve children's intelligence.
B. Research Objectives
Based on the background that the researcher has formulated, this study has the following
research objectives:

CHAPTER II
THEORITICAL REVIEW
ICT or commonly known as ICT (Technology, information and Communication) is one form
of progress that has grown rapidly to date. Various models of progress that we can feel at this
time, both in ICT itself and also the effects it has caused. The development of ICT itself includes
2 technologies, namely: technology relating to processes, use as a tool, manipulation, and
management of information and also communication technology which are all things related to
the use of tools to process and transfer data from one device to another.
The role of ICT in life has a tremendous influence, for example in the world of education.
Multimedia-based teaching systems (technology involving text, images, sounds, and videos) are
able to make the presentation of a topic of discussion interesting and easy to understand or the
internet that provides various facilities in its application in life
In the current era of globalization, the use of ICT has increased very significantly considering
that it has become a primary need for modern society today. The use of ICT starts from the age
of five even to people who are elderly. So it is not surprising that in this day and age almost all of
our activities are carried out with ICT, for example shopping, entertainment, learning and even
politics have entered the internet, which means that ICT has had a great influence on life in this
era.
But from its use, ICT does not always have a positive impact but also has a negative impact and
that is of course very dangerous to human life if it is not followed up, especially for the
intelligence of the current nation's children, along with the explanation:
1. Excess ICT
b. Innovation in learning grows in the presence of e-learning innovations that further facilitate
the educational process.
c. The progress of ICTs will also enable the development of virtual or class-based class
teleconferences that do not require educators and students to be in one room.
d. Administrative systems at educational institutions will be easier and smoother because of the
application of ICT systems.
3
e. The emergence of mass media, especially electronic media as a source of central knowledge
and education.
f. The emergence of new learning methods, which allow students and teachers in the learning
process. With the advancement of technology creates new methods that make students able to
understand abstract material, because material can be made with the help of abstract technology.
g. The learning system does not have to be face to face. With technological advancements the
learning process does not have to bring together students and teachers, but also can use postal
services, the internet and others.
h. Reducing lag in ICT usage and in education compared to developing countries and other
developed countries.
i. Improving the quality of human resources through the development and utilization of
information and communication technology.
j. Sharing the results of research, research published on the internet will be easy to use by other
people around the world quickly.
k. Consultation with experts, consulting experts in the field of invitations can be done easily even
if the experts are very much in place.
m. Online discussion. Online discussions are discussions conducted via the internet.
2. Weakness of ICT
a. IT progress will further facilitate the violation of Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) due to easy
access to data that causes plagiarians to commit fraud.
One of the negative effects of television is to train children to think short and survive
concentrating in a short time (short term attention).
c. Program confidentiality tests increasingly threaten intelligence tests such as the Raven test,
Differential Test aptitude can be accessed via compact disk. The implications and problems of
existing psychological tests will be easy to leak, and the development of psychological tests must
race against the level of leakage through the internet.
4
d. Misuse of knowledge for certain people to commit criminal acts. We know that progress in the
field of education also creates a high-e-book generation of knowledgeable but low moral. For
example, with high computer science people will try to break through the banking system and
others.
e. It does not make IT the only medium or means for learning, for example, we not only
download, but still buy printed books, not only visit digital libraries, but also visit the library.
f. Consider using IT in education, especially for children who are still in control while making
learning with IT. Pro and contra-use analysis.
g. Students and sometimes teachers, can be addictive aspects of technology, not content. Just
because a topic can be taught through IT, that does not mean that it is taught effectively through
IT. Even if the subject can be taught effectively through IT, and there is money available, that
does not mean that there is always a benefit to it. There are many studies or studies conducted to
see and see whether the use of ICTs can improve learning.
h. Need for clear goals. IT is seen as less effective (or ineffective) when the purpose of its use is
unclear. Like to use the internet to search for porn videos when using a computer at school.
William Stern argues that intelligence is an ability to adjust to new demands assisted by
mastering the functions of thinking. Meanwhile, Binet argues that intelligence is an ability
obtained through offspring, ability inherited and possessed from birth and not too much
influenced by the environment. Within certain limits the speech environment plays a role in the
formation of intelligence abilities.
From some of the opinions above, we can draw conclusions that will explain intelligence
characteristics:
1. Intelligence is a mental ability that involves a rational thinking process. Therefore, intelligence
cannot be observed directly, but must be inferred from various concrete actions that are
manifestations of the thought process.
5
The factors that influence the intelligence of students are as follows:
Individuals who come from IQ that are highly correlated will greatly influence the individual's
intelligence.
In addition to innate factors, it turns out that the environment is capable of causing significant
changes. Intelligence is certainly not separated from the brain. In other words, the organic
development of the brain will greatly affect a person's level of intelligence. On the other hand,
brain development is strongly influenced by the nutrients consumed. Therefore, there is a
connection between nutritious feeding and one's intelligence. Effects of experiential intellectual
resources such as education, training on various skills, and others.
b. Using ICT to train hand and eye coordination, this exercise stimulates kinesthetic intelligence.
c. ICT encourages logic and mathematical intelligence. The ICT program teaches logical skills
and critical thinking.
d. Game and graphics applications, such as the Sims game, train spatial intelligence, visuals and
also train children to think quickly.
e. Through ICT, ordinary children know more types of children's songs from abroad.
f. ICT is a catalyst for interpersonal intelligence. Children can share their computers or gadgets
with other children.

CHAPTER III
RESEARCH METHODOLOGY
A. Type of Research
1. Population
The population is a collection of various individuals who have the same character. In this study
the population is Senior High School 1 Sipoholon.
2. Samples
In this study the researchers determined the number of samples totaling 40 people from ten (X)
grade with the reason to minimize the possibilities that arise such as time and cost.
C. Research Time
D. Research Instrument
Online questionnaire
A questionnaire is an information gathering technique that allows analysts to study the attitudes,
beliefs, behaviors, and characteristics of some of the main people in an organization that can be
affected by the system proposed or by an existing system. The analyst uses an online
questionnaire because the respondent (the person who responds or answer questions) far apart
and also save more time.
E. Analysis techniques
In this study, the researcher will analyze the data based on the qualitative data analysis technique
carried out in accordance with the case study approach, so that the analysis of the data used is by
reviewing the answers obtained from the research subjects. The answers are organized by
identifying and categorizing according to the research objectives. This is in accordance with the
main steps of the case study research revealed by Sudjarwo (2001)
7
Data and Data Analysis
A. RESULTS
The results of data collection, using the method questionnaire explicitly in examining how much
influence ICT on the intelligence development of students. The researcher conducted a
categorization of each respondent in the online questionnaire method. Following is the response
to the research questionnaire.
8
B. DISCUSSION
From the data collection above, the suitability between ICT and the pattern of children's
intelligence development increases, ICT is no longer a foreign object that is used in this era, but
a primary need in developing the potential of students, especially in terms of intelligence. They
need some attractive ICT.
9
CHAPTER V
A. Conclusion
From the explanation above, the researcher draws the conclusion that ICT has a very
important role in developing the intelligence of students in the current era of globalization.
B. Suggestions
There should be strict supervision and screening related to the use of ICT to prevent the
occurrence of irregularities. The role of educators and institutional institutions is very important
in shaping character and developing children's intelligence.
