Profile Proposal with Questions

1. His name is Huan Dao

2. I’ve been knowing this guy for at least 3 years now, the first time I met him was

when we were playing the same video games. But that wasn’t the reason I

wanted to interview him, it was because of his knowledge, his hard work through

his school and his University works. The way he talks, explains how things work

to me in a certain way kind of motivates me to study. I would definitely interview

his tips, works, and his experiences on his college days. And I would 100% ask

him about his job and his goal toward his 30’s.

Q: Where are you originally come from?

I was born and grew up in Saigon, Vietnam

Q: Can you tell me a little bit about yourself such as how old are you? where are

you currently living? Where are you currently working? etc. (A little background of

you)

I am 22 years old. My whole family moved to the US when I was 17 years old.

We encountered some adversities adapting to the fast-paced urban life in New

York City, but it has been getting better.

Q: If you’re still going to school or college, What’s your major degree right now?

I was an 11th grader back in Vietnam. However, due to the language barrier, I

decided to start over in 10th grade in American high school to catch up. I am

currently a senior Chemical Engineering major at City College of New York (

CCNY )

Q: How many more years for you to graduate from your degree?

I am in the class of 2020. This is my last year in college

Q: What are some obstacles have you faced when you first came to the United

States?

My obstacles are always about language, cultural differences, and finances.

Q: What have you done to overcome these obstacles to be more successful

during your student career?

My time in high school built me a great foundation and made me college

readiness. Nonetheless, as a first-generation college student in my family, I still

have to figure out how the system works by myself. Time management is the key

to success. I learned how to balance school, a part-time job, and social life by

having a schedule for every single thing in a day. Joining clubs on the campus

and networking with people also help me improving interpersonal skills.

Lu

Q: Can you tell us about your most significant events that might have helped you

to become who you are right now?

Students usually struggle on which school to go to, and which major to study.

There are so many possibilities out there for high school seniors. I was not an

exception in this issue. Besides taking AP science classes, I decided to engage

in many STEM extracurricular programs to see if I was truly passionate about the

science and technology field. It was a piece of advice from my Physics teacher.

Without that encouragement, I would not be able to figure out what I am capable

of and might waste more time studying what I don’t really like in college.

Q: What is your goal in the next 5 years after your graduation?

I plan to work in the chemical engineering industries such as petroleum,

pharmaceutical, and waste management after my graduation. My research

interest is developing advanced material. Therefore, I also want to attend

graduate school to further enhance my knowledge in this field.

Q: Do you think most of what you study in school will be helpful for you with your

real-life problems.

Engineering helps me coping with real-life problems in many aspects. It horns

my analytical and problem-solving skills. It also allows me to work in a group

efficiently.
Lu

Q: Is there anything you want to share to help undergraduate students to become

more successful?

For the first 2 years where classes are still manageable, try to look for and

participate in clubs of interest. Additionally, do not consider internships as a

matter for junior or senior students. It is better to start seeking for internship

opportunities early

His consistency really inspired me to study in college, the way he showed

background story ?
