For my budget, I plan on funding it a few different ways. For starters, I plan on doing a Peter

Piper Fundraiser. Where 15 percent of the proceeds from the night, will go towards the field trip and

transportation. Below, is a flyer for the event giving the details of the event. Regarding the classroom

supplies, the funds for that will come from a campaign started on adoptaclassroom.org. With this, I’ll be

able to supply the scholastic magazines, poster board, markers, and the slides for the microscopes.

Regarding the live rock, that will come out of my pocket. For that Lab, I need to be as fresh as possible.

After the lab is completed, I’ll be giving it to my father since he has a reef tank at his home. Lastly, if I

need any additional funds, I plan on applying for several grants to help fund the bigger expenses on the

budget. I want to make this as engaging as possible for the students. I know this budget seems a lot, but

with it, I can give the best experience possible for my class.

Above is the day to day planning for the problem-based lesson, why does bleaching occur in

coral reef systems? The students will be creating a hypothesis, then researching it with materials given

in class and on their Chromebooks. Their original hypothesis will change and evolve over time. I want to

the students to see how much of an impact, humans are creating to the environment and coming up

with a possible solution to fix it. There are several ways humans impact the environment. The students

will explore acidity level changes, warming of waters, Polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs), and invasive

species. At the end, they will present their findings to a panel consisting of myself, OdySea Marine

Biologists, and classmates for a grade. The presentation must include their hypothesis, why or how it’s

occurring in the environment, and solution(s) to fix the issue.
