According to the expansion demand, Bach Mai II and Viet

Duc II are major projects that get investment from state bud-
get. The ambitious vision for these new facilities is getting a
global standard and capable to serve the local region, also
the surrounding nations such as Laos, Cambodia...with 1000
beds for each.

I had a chance to work in concept phase of these two proj-

ects, which two biggest state hospitals in Vietnam when I
worked for VK Architects and Engineers. I learned from Bel-
gian experts and colleagues; practiced and grown in medical
planning, healthcare design acknowledges. We proceeded
the project with global mindset and awareness about local
conditions, building codes, local government and quality of
many relevant stakeholders such as contractors, suppliers…
And I am honor to be a part of the designing team because
these projects actually improve the healthcare overload situ-
ation and medical care quality of state hospital in Vietnam.

1.2. D2 SALES CENTRE

District 2, Hochiminh City, Vietnam [2018]

5100 m2
Job description:
Team leader of Interior design for Concept,
Technical design, Construction drawings,
Sketchup 3d modelling,
Prepare sample boards, schedules, tabulations,
Coordinate with MEP, C&S, contact suppliers.

This building is the temporary Sale galery for one real estate
project of Alpha King and they also planned to move their
head office to this new construction. The Interior design ex-
pressed the high demand of hospitality from the client. It
should tightly follow a storyline to sale real estate productions
of the Investor, but also well fit to the pratical mid and low end
budget for the back of house’s area.

I joined the D2 Sales Centre of Alpha King when working for

GSA. My job is the Interior leader of this project from concep,
technical design and construction drawings. Beside under-
standing and utilizing the unique fusion beauty of the archi-
tecture, the interior concept actually was a story teller for
multi-functional building which is lift up by high end hospitality
style, somehow emerged the local taste, alongside the prati-
cal design of BOH’s area.

During the time to proceed this project, there were many dif-
ficulties to deal with. I personally had grown quickly during
the process. This is a temporary project with 15 years lifespan,
the tight project timeline and high demand client with many
VOs and various decision-makers. The project was transfered
through many colleagues in both Architecture and Interior be-
fored handed to me as team leader of Interior Design. This
situation also happend to other consultants , such as C&S and
MEP. Thus, coordination sessions between all parties required
participants that can catch up quickly issues, be flexible and
strong in team work.

1.3. MASTER THESIS - ROPSTEN JUNCTION

Stockholm, Sweden [2016]

5100 m2
Job description:
Research,
Concept design: Urban strategy, Architectural
Intervention,
Visualization,
Sketchup 3d modelling.

From the ambitious of Stockholm Royal Seaport, the concept

of Symbio City is represented in a different aspect. The sym-
biotic relationship in architecture context is observed by the
lens of territory. With the intervention that provides an symbi-
otic relationship, infrastructure have a potential to join in the
urban fabric as a social infrastructure, generate the public
connection, besides being a basic installation for functioning
of a community.

The multi-functional house creates flexibility for the space, also

the urban sense. The main aim is create a meeting point, lo-
cated underneath the touch-down infrastructure can offer “a
place” to the public and useful in a sense of pleasure. This
architecture development is a choice that has to deal with
the existing structure somehow still maintain the mixture of the
surrounding areas’ identities (industrial zone and residential
zone), also break through the splitting impact of normal infra-
structure via the waterfront platform.

The approach of this master thesis is under the frame work

”Promiscuous Assemblages: Territory, Ecology & the Welfare
State”, mainly focus in Territory issue. I had a great chance to
broaden my mind-set with urban perspective and used dif-
ferent experemental tools to “see” the matter of the place.
By that way, the architecture intervention was come up as a
consequence of co-woking between academic methodolo-
gy and creativity.

Water
Eventhough being close
to coastline, there is
lacking of connnection
with water. The sensa-
tion about this element
is neglected, except the
meaning of transport.

In-between
Undefined space exists
between 2 mass touch-
down infrastructural
components (the metro
station and the flyover)

Flows of
movement
Ropsten Junction is full of
movement. The ovelap-
ing and interaction be-
tween flows of public
transport, car, bike, pdes-
trian create a complexity
of this area in both hori-
zontal and vertical orien-
tation

Technical
C omponent
The district heat pump sta-
tion appears interestingly
on the site by exposing the
techinical pipes. They twist,
they overlay, they sprawl
alongside a water deck, a
pedestrian road, they wrap
around a typical technical
mental box. They are alive
in the way they work and
somehow join in the urban
fabric with a rough touch of
industrial manner.

3.1. ORDER OF DISORDER

Section of the substitute accommodation for the slum

Dharavi, Mumbai, India [2011]
120.000 m2
Architect: UGO Architecture and Design

This project is about the biggest slum in asia Dharavi, which is

home to over 1 million inhabitants. The selling of the slum’s land
requires a solution for the relocation of this unique community.
located only ten minutes from the centre of the metropolis,
its financial district and the famous bollywood, the land (and
people living there) has been put up for sale by the city au-
thorities, it is worth over 2.3 billion dollars. the slum generates
profits worth 500 million dollars, it supplies the whole of mumbai
with necessary products and goods.
The new facility is a structure without a prescribed function.
divided into 7 x 3.5 m units similar to a multi-storey car park.
the dimensions are focused around an analysis of the build-
ings surrounding the dump. The only feature in the develop-
ment that suggests a function is the dedicated recycling area.
the open ground floor space serves mainly to supply garbage
from the dump and export goods produced by the residents.
the 7m wide streets around the building’s edge fulfill not only
their transport function but they are also major places for so-
cial meetings and trade.

Without information behind, the image fascinated me by di-

versity of activities, spaces, structures, creatures living stack-
ingly together. The beauty of chaos is formed by the rational
volums, principles of structure, needs indeed and interactions
between people, activities, creatures.
The question is why and how to establish the order of disorder?
For me, a better control but still leaving spaces for self-devel-
opment and flexibility is the consequense that we look for.
It’s not necessary to be black and white, it can be great with
pattern.

3.2. COURAGE

The Centre Georges Pompidou

Paris, France [1971-1977]
Gross Floor Area: 100.000 m2,
Architect: Richard Rogers and Renzo Piano
CS & MEP: Ove Arup & Partners,
Landscape Architect: Cuno Brullmann.

The Centre Pompidou brings together the themes which have

characterised Rogers’ architecture from the mid 1960s – skin
and structure, technology and flexibility, movement and an-
ti-monumentalism.
Half of the total available site area was set aside as a public
square which meant that the Centre had to be tall enough to
accommodate 90,000 m² (one million ft2) of space. The deci-
sion to place structure and services on the outside was driven
by the need for internal flexibility, as a result providing huge
expanses of uninterrupted space on massive, open floors – the
staggering scale of these internal spaces is free from the intru-
sion of services and stairs.
The structural system provided for a braced and exposed steel
superstructure with reinforced concrete floors. External ser- The Centre Georges Pompidou
vices give scale and detail to the façades, while celebration
of movement and access is provided by lifts and escalators.
The result is a highly expressive, strongly articulated building
that has come to be seen as a Parisian landmark.

The Centre Pompidou emerged in the heart of historical cen-

tre of Paris is a proof of courage. That is the courage of de-
signers and all the stakeholders that get involed in the project.
The reckless impression of how the building looks like in this
context definitely creates multidimensional critique streams.
The process of materializing the project requires courage in
many aspects. It was built up by the belief in pragmatisim in
thinking, appoach, the belief in the internal executive team,
ability to convince public opinion and the deternination of
doing things

3.3. PERFORMANCE OF LIVING FRAMES

Can Travi Elderly Housing

Barcelona, Spain [2009]
Gross Floor Area: 8925.0 m2
Housing Units: 85
Architect: GRND82

The mixed program of housing and facilities was determined

by high economic restrictions that obliged us to maximize the
best part of the site: the spectacular views of Barcelona and
the ocean beyond.
These terraces condense the life inhabiting them. They expose
the domestic activities of the users to the city beyond, like the
central courtyard of the houses of the Algerian Kashba trans-
lated onto the vertical plane. Each user makes the space their
own. The collection of actions and activities of the inhabitants
remains integrated in the volume of the building through the
interior position of the terrace. The architecture is saturated
with daily life, and shows itself to the city as such. White cov-
ers everything, from the individual curtains to the façade as a
whole, unifying the building like the snow on the distant hori-
zon.

housing-units-for-senior-and-public-facilities-grnd82)

For me, the most interesting impression of the image is framing

daily lives of residents by structured windows and balconies
and creating the lively facade’s rhythm.
The flat envelope with standardised recessed balconies ar-
ranged in flexible and playful ways offers me an idea of dou-
ble skin layout, which allows more freedom to design facade,
hidden structure components. And the next step is finding ra-
tional functions for blanks between push-in balconies.

3.4. CONTRAST AND SUPPLEMENTARY

Hafencity University Subway Station

Hamburg, Germany [2012]
Architect: Raupach Architekten
Lighting consultant: Pfarré lighting design

The design reacts associatively on the located identities on

site: The brick facades changing their appearance due to
daylight, the steel hulls and modules of transport containers,
changing their colours with the seasons. Consequently, the
materiality of the subway stop is guided by Steel, Light and
Colour. The light is grasped into containers, creating self-con-
fident, powerful objects, which are able to coexist with steel.
Its formal connection to a transport container becomes clear,
as well as the idea of a maritime environment. Lighting Design
Twelve “Light-Containers” hovering above the platform domi-
nate the 10 m high and 16 m wide platform area, determine its
atmosphere, and give creative power and distinctiveness. Co-
loured Reflections are discreetly mapped onto the shimmer-
ing dark steel plates clamped on walls and ceiling surfaces
of the platform. Since they are statically or dynamically pro-
grammed by choice, they change their in harmony with the
different moods of a full day and also to make waiting for the
trains to a sensual experience.

Like a dipole of matter, the image strongly speaks out the con-
cept of using oposite and supplemental interactive identities
in lighting design and material scheme.
Each design identy is pushed to extreme. The dark tunnel is a
perfect background for colorful light cube. The neutral - dark-
grey range is a smooth transition from one to another pole of
the concept.

The material selection that the fashion designer applied for this
look provoke me the general design principle of relationship
between featured elements and surrounding context within
one object, hierarchy of design. We can see the same effect
in architecture and interior design.
The design choices of finishes, color scheme, texture on the
fabric, forms, details, proportion...have the similiar ways of ar-
chitecture / interior design.
