EXPRIMENT

Aim: - To study the transient response of a second order network.

Theory: - A second order network is a network that is defined by a

second order differential equation. A network comprising of a resistance, R,
an inductance, L, and a capacitance, C, all in series is the simplest second
order network.

A second order RLC series circuit has the dynamic equation as,

Taking Laplace Transform and rearranging the terms for a unit step input,
the current is given by,

The above may be put in the standard, normalized form as,

where, is the damping ratio

n is the natural frequency.

Various operating conditions, denominator roots and the resulting response
may be summarized as,

the expressions for time of peak response, tp, time of first zero crossing, to,
and peak value of the response, i(tp), may be derived as,
Value for damping constant: -

value for natural frequency: -

Value for capacitance:-

Value for inductance: -

Value for resistance: -
