MATERIALS AND METHODS

This section describes the specific procedures and techniques used to identify, select, and

analyze information applied to understand the research problem, thereby, allowing the reader to

critically evaluate a study’s overall validity and reliability.

Research Design

The study utilized an exploratory design for gathering data’s and information. It focuses to

assess the total energy access and drinking water access of the several households in Purok-2,

Poblacion, Valencia City. The main focused of this design is to collect a statistically accurate data.

It is most commonly used for further defining issues, areas for potential growth, alternative courses

of action, and prioritizing areas that require statistical research.

Research Strategy

The study entitled “Assessment of Total Energy Access and Drinking Water Access of

the Several Households in Purok-2, Poblacion, Valencia City” was conducted through interviews,

such as listening to the respondents recount on their satisfactory towards the access to electricity

and water. It has also taken an interview; the interviewer asks open-ended questions and simply

records what the participant says. In addition this was done through a focus group strategy where

the opinion of the respondents will be accumulated at the same time.

 The figure reveals the possible variables that may affect the total access of each households

to energy and drinking water. It may differ according to the household’s financial income

Location and Duration of the Study

The location of the study was set at Purok-2, Poblacion, Valencia City where the

researchers gathered data containing different information that may assess the total energy access

and drinking water. The duration of the study lasted from September 10, 2019 until September 16,

2019. During this duration the gathering of the data was conducted on September 14, 2019 1:00

PM to 5:00PM.

Population and Sample

The study of statistics revolves around the study of data sets with this the researchers

surveyed a total of 30 randomly picked respondents.

Instrumentation

The researchers used the following materials for the data gathering this is in accordance to

the data gathering process which is the focus on the interviews and surveys. During the interviews

audio and video recorders must for recording interviews. And the used for survey materials such

as survey papers is required for the survey of a focus group.

The focus of the study are the citizens of Purok-2, Poblacion, Valencia City concerning

their total access to energy and drinking water. In accordance with this the researchers picked only
30 of the total population of the community then the respondents was asked for an interview

assessing their total consumption.

The second instrument used was the Energy Supply Index Framework to assess their total

energy access and the quality of energy supply.

Treatment and Data Gathering

The data collection process for this study was approved by the subject adviser and the

Barangay Captain of Barangay Lumbo. Before the interview, the assessment on the total energy

access and drinking water access on the several households in Purok 2, Valencia City, Bukidnon

questionnaire were administered, a letter was sent to the Barangay Captain of Barangay Lumbo to

seek permission for the citizen to participate in this study. To ensure 100% retrieval, the

researchers the questionnaire collected from the respondents for tabulation. After then, it was

summited to the statistician for analysis and interpretation.

The researchers assess the total energy access and drinking water with different demographic

and household information, including their age, family income, educational attainment, civil

status, and family shape.

Aside from the accommodation of survey materials and questionnaire the researchers will

pick random citizen for an interview with regards to their life status towards the energy access and

drinking water.
 Analysis of Data

The data collected from the respondents will be coded, entered, and analyzed and Studied

at Central Mindanao University. The data was analyzed using descriptive statistics such as

frequencies, means, and standard deviations and percentage using the Statistical Package for Social

Science Personal Computer Version (SPSSx/PC).

Photo Documentation

Photo documentation is taken throughout the conduct of the study. Distribution of Survey

questionnaires to the different classrooms and the scheduled interviews were photographed using

a Canon D30 Camera.
