WATER CHAMPIONS PROGRAMME

Champions List (Water-Champions-List.aspx)   |   Programme Gallery (water-gallery.aspx)

Have you ever asked yourself this question – What is the value of water? After a brief contemplation, anyone would
realise that an answer to this question is not quite straightforward. It is abundant yet scarce; invaluable yet ‘free’;
sustains life yet, if contaminated, it can be life-threatening; water gives joy but it can also cause a lot of sorrow.

In spite of playing such an important function in sustaining and augmenting human life, it is quite unfortunate that
water is seldom given its due importance by companies. This, despite the fact that water is consumed as a raw
material, solvent, coolant, transport agent, and energy source. But this situation is rapidly changing.

Availability of water resources has become a key concern for companies as population growth, changing lifestyle
patterns, rapid urbanisation and industrialisation, and climate change place unprecedented pressure on limited
water supplies. Seasonal changes in water availability and long-term water shortages due to unsustainable use
have already constrained growth in select geographical areas and threaten to dampen economic growth. In the
context of these water challenges, there is an urgent need for efficient and sustainable use of the world's limited
water resources.
