STANDARD OPERATING PROCEDURE FOR BLASTING ENGINEERS AT


MANGAMPET BARYTES PROJECT.

ACCOUNTABILITY: - PERSON IN CHARGE – BLASTING;


RESPONSIBILTY: - ENGINEER – BLASTING;

Daily activities;
1. Execution of previous day’s tentative Blasting plan by consulting night shift Drilling I/C.
2. Examination of Blast faces like free face, Spacing X Burden, loose stones at the edges
along with hole depth measurement.
3. In case of any drill hole blockage inform the drilling shift I/C to re-drill it.
4. Length of NONEL required should be noted down.
5. Necessary field instructions should be given to Blasters & Helpers regarding safety and
Charge per hole etc,.
6. While planning blasting locations the following points should be kept in mind.
a. No. of holes and meterage.
b. Strata condition and dry holes or watery holes.
c. Man power availability.
d. Explosive requirement.
e. If the location is near Mines Office.
f. Time required for each location.
g. Marching of machinery to safe location during firing.
h. Prediction of “Fly Rock” in case of blast in upper and bottom benches.
7. Requisition Indent should be given to APMDC Blasting Manager and explain the details of
Location, explosives required.
8. Arrangement of LMV for going to Magazine.
9. Ensure that Blasting tools like stemming rods, hand shovels & drinking water cans are
brought to the site.
10. Ensure that SME trucks are emptied their water tank before initial weighment.
11. Arrangement of Stone chips for stemming wherever required.
12. Blasting location plan should be circulated to production shift I/C, Drilling shift I/C
personally and through Whatsapp group.
13. Man power distribution should be done based on “right person for right job”. SME truck
allocation based on the requirement and availability.
14. Execution & monitoring of charging operations with effective co-ordination and proper
communication.
15. Ensure that Pre –blast photos should be captured especially in Black Shale.
16. Always try to finish the charging operations in time. If any delay (not more than 30 min.)
due to unavoidable reasons, information should be given to Production shift I/C.
17. Ensure that all the machinery moved to safe location by interacting with the production
people.
18. Arrangement of LMVs for blasting.
19. Ensure that guards shall be posted at prominent places. When blasting location is nearby,
Information should be given to Time office and ensure that persons are evacuated in the
vicinity.
20. Ensure that Post –blast photos should be captured especially in Black Shale.
21. Finalization of SME quantity by comparing Charge sheet, Counter reading & actual
weighment.
22. Preparation & analysis of blasting report.
23. Circulate the blasting report to all the concerned.
24. At the end of every day stock of Explosives & Accessories in the Magazine should be
checked and noted.
25. Tentative blasting plan should be finalized for next day by taking the inputs of Production
Head Drilling person I/C.
Weekly activities;
1. Drilling & Blasting meterage should be cross checked along with Engineer - Drilling. If any
difference, justify it.
2. MIS & Blasting Quantity should be cross checked.
3. Magazine stock of explosives & accessories should be verified.
4. In case of shortage inform the concerned and prepare the requisition for RE 11.
Monthly activities;
1. Preparation of Monthly Bills.
2. Preparation of Monthly SME PESO returns submitted by the suppliers.
3. Planning of explosives and accessories for the next month based on the budget.
General activities;
1. Interact frequently with the Drilling engineers and operators for the improvement in
a. Accuracy in hole depth according to the bench height including sub grade drilling.
b. Accuracy in Spacing X Burden material wise, Location wise and Dia of Drill.
c. Relation between Spacing X Burden and Charge Factor and its effect on cost of
blasting
d. Collapsed holes meterage & analyze the reasons for collapsing.
2. Interact frequently with the Engineers, Foremen, persons in charge – Production for
a. Percentage of Boulders’ generation and its effect on productivity.
b. Productivity of each machine location wise.
c. Providing free face,
d. Fly rock problems in case of improper cleaning of faces.
