Class 11 Time : 1 hr.

16-5-2018 Class Test in PHYSICS M. Marks : 20

1. Write the physical quantity which has the same dimensional formula same as that of impulse. (1)

𝑀1−𝑀2
2. M1 and M2 are the mass of two objects. Write the dimensional formula of (1)
𝑀1+𝑀2

3. Suggest a method to minimize the error while you perform an experiment in your laboratory. (1)

4. Check the dimensional accuracy of the following formula. E=m5 G-2v2 where, E, m,G and v are
energy, mass, universal gravitational constant and velocity respectively. (2)

5. Write two limitations of dimensional analysis. Justify each limitation with an example. (2)

6. Check the dimensional accuracy of the following formula,

𝑃
V = √𝑑 where v is the speed of sound, P is pressure, and d is density. (2)

7. Using dimensional analysis, convert 10N of force in to a new system of units in which is mass is
measured in quintals, length is measured in cm and time is measured in minutes using dimensional
analysis (2)

8. A satellite revolves around the earth experiences a force known as centripetal force. The
centripetal force (F) depends mass (m) of the satellite speed of the satellite(v), and the orbital
radius(r). Using dimensional analysis, deduce an expression for centripetal force. (3)

9. A student measures the thickness of a metallic sheet using a screw a guage and the readings are
given below. 2.22mm, 2.12mm, 2.32mm, 2.42mm, 2.24mm and 2.42mm. Calculate the percentage
error in the determination of thickness and report the thickness within the error limit. (3)

10. For a liquid, the surface tension (T) depends on the following quantities.
(i) rise in the capillary tube (h)
(ii) density f the liquid (d)
(iii) acceleration due to gravity (g)
(iv) radius of the capillary tube (r)
Using dimensional analysis, derive the expression for surface tension. Given that surface tension is
directly proportional to radius of the capillary tube. (3)
