2.1 Understanding Daily Routine and Habitual Action
Daily routine and habitual action, event, event, or situation that happens every day and has
become a habit. Usually using the formula: subject + Verb I + Object. The use of time information
that can be used in the form of simple present tense is always, usually, every day, every morning,
every week, and so on.
2.2 Examples of Daily Routine And Habitual Action
Examples of Daily Routine :
In contrast to simple past tense which uses past verbs, simple present tense is a sentence
that shows things that are happening now or routine. Now one of the sentences that usually uses
simple present tense is daily activity.
What is daily activity? It is a sequential daily routine since the activity starts in the morning
until it ends at night. All words in daily activity use the simple present tense format because it is
done in the current time and is still ongoing.
The characteristics of daily activity with simple present tense are: Using basic verbs (play, work,
swim, etc.)
Verbs keep adjusting to the subject of frequency adverbs (adverb of frequency)
Example:
always, usually, often, sometimes, hardly ever, rarely, never occasionally
Here is an example of daily activity that uses simple present sentences.
Example Paragraph:
The first example is the daily activity of a student with his routine at home and on campus. As can
be seen from the explanation below, there are many frequency statements that characterize daily
routines. Adverbs or adverbs of frequency will be printed in bold to clarify the difference.
My name is Jojo, I’m a student at university. Here is my daily routine. I always wake up at 6.00 in
the morning. I usually have breakfast at 6.30. I order online transportation to university at 8.00.
After that, I usually start studying at 8.30.
At noon, I always have lunch with my friends. After the lunch break, I join the class again. I finish
the study at 4.15 in the afternoon. For refreshing, I sometimes go to the cinema with my friends in
the evening.
I usually have dinner with my family at 7.00. And then we spend time together watch television or
discuss interesting issues of the day. I rarely go to bed before 11 o’clock. I often go to bed at
midnight.
Example In The Sentence:
1. Mr. and Mrs. Maddox usually go shopping at the weekend. They buy everything they
need.
2. Peter gets on the school bus at 8.15 every morning.
3. Jack get dressed for the school before breakfast. He wears trousers and a jumper
4. Jane and Marilyn do housework every Sunday. Jane usually sweeps the floor and dusts the
furniture.

Example of Habitual Action


To express behavior that has become a habit. The formula for positive sentences is as follows:

[ I / you / we / they / ] + verb1


[he / she / it ] + verb1 + s/es

Examples :
 I work hard
 You always come
 We practice english everyday
 They study hard (mereka belajar keras)
 He usually does it well
 She loves me so much
 It depends on your opinion

The formula for negative sentences:

[I / you / we / they / ] + do not + verb1


[he / she / it] + does not + [verb1 + s/es]
Do not usually abbreviated don't
Does not usually abbreviated doesn't

Examples :
 I don't know the answer
 You don't speak franch
 We don't practice english everyday
 They don't study hard
 He sometimes don't understand me
 She doesn't love me at all
 It doesn't matter

The formula for the question sentence:


Do + [I/you/we/they] + verb1
Does + [he/she/it] + [verb1 + s/es]
Examples :
 Do i pass the exam?
 Do you know the answer?
 Do we practice english everyday?
 Does he do his duty well?
 Does she hate me?
 Does it metter?
