THE CAUSE OF ALCOHOLISM AMONG ZNHS STUDENTS

CHAPTER 1.

INTRODUCTION

Alcohol addiction is widespread among the students. This has led to conclusion that
many of the students have become accustomed to the use of alcohol. At an early age,
the students who excessively use alcohol might affect their body because of its high
rate of morbidity and mortality. Some of them are misusing the alcohol which leads to
addiction and can increase risk of poor health problems. Students are being exposed
to changes in their environment. With this transition, they are more likely to have a
chance of using intoxicating substances.

The use and abuse of alcohol continues to be widespread among the students. The
constant increase of the students who consume alcohol has made a large impact on
society. That’s why researchers are understanding the factors why students use
alcohol. Some of them are using and abusing alcohol to have an experiment or to
experience the thrill of it. Research shows that many students start to drink at very
young ages and drinking patterns established during adolescence are likely to
continue through adulthood. The influence of the environment and other social factors
are some causes why students are getting involved in consumption of alcohol. The
negative consequences of students who use alcohol include decreased academic
achievements, depression and other substance use.

A study conducted by the researchers on students in high school came up with a

number of reasons for alcohol use. High on the list was curiosity about the substance
effect. Some students who have ever taken alcohol said that they got involved
because alcohol helps them escape reality and forget their problems. Other factors
such as lifestyle, stressful situations with anxiety, lack of confidence, peer pressure
and other problems related with their education were considered as causes of alcohol
consumption among students.

The aim of the study is to focus about the causes of alcoholism among the students
and determine the other factors that influence them to engage in using alcohol. Parent
and student relationship was also important as this may influence the behavior of the
students in the consumption of alcohol.

STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM

The purpose of this study is to find the factors why some students are getting addicted
to alcohol. Alcoholism is a condition where many people tend to consume alcohol even
though it has a negative impact on their lives. Students who excessively drink alcohol
can affect their health and education. The more they drink, the more likely they will
suffer from negative consequences.
However, many students still use and abuse alcohol. The main reason for that is
because they think it helps them to have some fun and get away from their problem.
The number of alcohol consumption among the students increases regardless of how
it can negatively affect them.

In response to this problem, researchers found that students use alcohol because of
the different factors that influence them. The study recognizes that there are several
ways that can make them prevent for heavy drinking. It will then help the students
whether they might want to change their drinking to reduce possible risks.

SCOPE AND DELIMITATIONS

In 21st modern generations, students can involve to any destructions in their studies.
Some of these are alcoholic drinks, party anywhere, cigarettes and most specially the
different kinds of drugs in the country.

Yes, the modern generations today are already aware in this kind of issue but why it
is still one of the most issue that needed to be shown by the government. First of all,
health is one of the things that is needed to take care of but because there are lots of
temptations in the surroundings, people have forgotten it already. Some teenagers
said that alcoholic drink can lessen their problems in life or it can lessen the stress
they have got in school but they are wrong. It can bring them many negative things

like after drinking session, it can be a destruction to studies and may take them away
also to their family. Many researchers said that alcohol is not just well-known in the
other countries instead in this country also. Under these circumstances, expectancy
effects have possibly contaminated the results significantly. On the research also said
that naturalistic alcohol consumption studies can be considered as being suggestive
of hangover effects, but should not be interpreted as providing definitive evidence of
such effects.

Let us grow up, be matured enough and widen our knowledge about these kind of
issues. Prevention is better than cure so let us always remind ourselves that healthy
first before anything else.

CHAPTER 2.

RESEARCH DESIGN

This study uses interview method to acquire the needed data and to determine the
perception of the students regarding alcoholism. This is to figure out what are the
causes or reasons why they consume alcohol, how often they are doing it, and what
are the effects of alcohol to them.

RESEARCH LOCALE

The study was conducted in Iba, Zambales and the chosen respondents are students
in Zambales National High School from Junior to Senior High School. The respondents
were interviewed in their houses or in any comfortable places they wanted to. Other
respondents were interviewed via chat.

INSTRUMENTS

The research instrument that was used by the researchers in the study is a semi-
unstructured interview. This was used to easily obtain information about the causes of
alcoholism among the students. The written interview guide used by the researchers
helped them to get the needed answers by the respondents.

DATA COLLECTION

The researchers interviewed 10 participants using interview guide. Each interview was
done during their free time that will lasted for five to fifteen minutes.
