No one is spared from the possibility of suffering from mental illness.

Good evening Brothers and to you my beloved Formators.

Last October 18,2019 Novaliches Bishop Most Rev. Pablo Virgillo David or also known as

Bishop Ambo, alongside with a team of professional psychologists and psychiatrists, initiated a

project which is aiming to provide the promotion of mental well-being and a campaign on how we

are going to prevent the occurrence of this so called mental disorders.

But first what is a mental disorder? Mental Disorder otherwise known as mental illness or

psychological disorder was defined by World Health Organization as a wide range of mental health

conditions or disorder that affects your thinking, mood and behavior towards dealing with different

things and people. Whereas, this so called mental illness includes (i.e. depression, schizophrenia

etc.) which was induced by various factors such as (i.e. childhood abuse, trauma etc.)

Moreover, another question is that how are we going to know if someone is already

suffering from it? Based on the researches made by professional psychologists and psychiatrists. It

shows that someone is already suffering from mental illness if he or she is already showing some of

this early warning signs of mental illness to keep an eye on particularly when someone is already

suffering from two or more of these symptoms which identified as, (i.e. Long occurrence of sadness

or irritability etc.)

In addition, this common types of mental illness are very predominant and rampant

nowadays here in the Philippines particularly to the teenagers ages 16-20 like us. wherein in the

past few years, based on the data presented of Department of Health, Philippines is on top among

the other countries in Southeast Asia in terms of people who is suffering to mental disorders and

that mental disorder is 3rd among the top of the most common causes of disability here in our

country especially to the youth. It's also reported that more or less 3.3 million Filipinos are enduring

from this so called mental disorder, which includes 2.5 percent males and 1.7 percent of females per

100,000 Filipinos, are committing suicide because of it. However, the experts of psychological field

said that all of us has the potential to develop mental health problems, no matter what age we are

and also regardless of capability and state of life. Nonetheless, the World Health Organization

thinks that this numbers are just a percentage only of the actual problem. particularly because in a

Catholic Country like ours, talking about mental health creates stigma among Filipino peoples,

hence the mental disorder incidents could be under-reported.

But the real question here is how, are we going to solve and prevent this type of problems?

Especially here in the seminary. We are very prone of this problem because such as the (malayo sa

pamilya, loneliness, crisis, tiredness, drive for wordly desires) Whereas, we have here also the so

called “Crisis na ako “expression which can be attributed as one of the early signs to develop a

mental disorder in which if we didn’t address immediately might lead to the development of the

said disorder.

However, despite of this mental disorders we must consider the world from a new

perspective: incorporate into it on equal terms. because Life is given only once, and you have no

time to waste it. Not a single moment to spare! As soon as the world starts changing, you will keep

a stronger touch with it. You will realize that inward problems are mainly our own creations, our

own illusions, our own misunderstandings. Share your doubts with the world, and you be

understood in return. It is easiest to shut your heart and pretend that loneliness is desirable. A white
