Conducting my competency assessment

Prior to the conduct of assessment, I as competency assessor checked the area and visited the venue
including all the resources as to its functionality, safety and completeness. I also coordinated with the
AC Manager about the assessment and observe proper grooming and punctuality and reviewed all the
assessment procedures.

During the assessment proper, I checked the validity and identity of the candidates by comparing their
signature from the attendance sheet against the admission slip and their valid ID.

During Orientation, I will discuss the purpose of assessment such as certification, professional growth,
skills audit and to determine the level of competence. I will also discuss the context of assessment such
as the physical setting of the venue and the persons involve. I will also discuss the allowable adjustments
such as the religion/culture physical health conditions and language barriers. I will also discuss the legal
and ethical issues such as the right to appeal, confidentiality, and integrity of assessor and free consent
of candidates. I will also discuss the assessment procedures such as the purpose and context,
orientation, judgement and feedbacking, recording and reporting and lastly I will explain the
Competency Standard to be assessed such as the qualification, the unit of competency which is
(produce organic fertilizer), tasks to be performed, evidence to be collected and the methods of
assessment.

The purpose of orientation is to prepare the candidate for the assessment to make them feel relax and
not apprehensive. For them to be clarified on what are the task they are going to perform, the
assessment process, evidence to be collected, competencies to be performed and the flow of
assessment.

To ensure that the candidates understand the task they are going to performed I will provide a copy of
specific instructions gave time for them to read and interpret and ask questions and clarifications if they
understand the task to be performed and explain orally the tasks to be performed.

While the candidate performing the task I will not ask question, interrupt, disturb and also I will not
leave the assessment area, I will only observe and take down notes their performance, observe their
safety and stop the assessment if accident is imminent.

During oral interview if the answer of the candidate is not satisfactory, I will not give the correct answer
but rather rephrase the question that will lead to answer because the candidate may think that the
assessment is already finished and they think that I’m already giving feedback.

The basis of my assessment decision is according to the evidence I have gathered during the assessment
such as the result of performance test, oral interview and written test if applicable. My basis also is in
accordance with the 4 dimensions of competency such as the task skills, task management skills,
contingency management skills, job/role environment skills and rules of evidenced such as validity,
recent, currency, sufficiency and authenticity. And the corroboration of evidence

I will give feedback constructively by discussing first the strengths, then weakness and the areas for
improvement. I will provide some advice for improvements on how to develop their skills/knowledges.
In case the candidates does not agree with my decision I will advise him/her to write an incident report
on the areas of dis agreement for both of us to sign and to be submitted to the TESDA Representative
Furthermore if the result is competent I will give advice on how to claim the Cars and how to request the
NC/COC. On the other hand if the result is NYC I will advise areas of improvements and the
reassessment process.
