My essay will focus on the benefits technology has on education. I want to know how

teachers feel about the advances in technology in the classroom and how the feel it affects the

children. I want to know if technology has changed the way children learn while in a classroom

environment. When did these advances start to happen? I also want to know how teachers feel if

they don’t like the technological advances.

Aftunion. “Technology in Education.” American Federation of Teachers, 22 Sept. 2016,

https://www.aft.org/ae/spring2016/debruyckere-kirschner-and-Hulshof.

Pedro De Bruyckere, Paul A. Kirschner, and Casper D. Hulshof, talk and explain myths

surrounding technology in education, in the article “Technology in Education.” The address 5

different myths ranging from internet belongs in the classroom to the internet is making us

dumber. In the myth, “The Internet belongs in the classroom because it is part of the personal

world experienced by children,” they talk about how most students prefer having a teacher at the

front of the room rather than learning through a program. They also talk about newer

generations, they call these generations digital natives because they have grown up with

technology. The digital natives use different forms of technology to communicate, learn, and
socialize. In the myth, “young people don’t read anymore,” they explain how young people are

reading, just not in the most conventional ways. They read on social media and text messages.

The writers wrote this to inform teachers and other professionals about the common

myths that revolve around technology. It helps inform them on technology that can help students

and on things that children won’t adapt well to. This article is pretty recent and the information is

on track with the way society and education is right now. All of the myths are myths that are still

around right now and can help teachers.

The writers of this article, Pedro De Bruyckere, Paul A. Kirschner, and Casper D.

Hulshof, are credible because they have done extensive research on these myths. They provide

references to their work and pull direct quotes from different places, they use credible sources to

back up the information they are providing.

I can use information from a few of the myths, such as “young people don’t read

anymore,” and “todays ‘digital natives’ are a new generation who want a new style of

education.” The information they provided under these myths will help me explain why advances

in technology is important in education.

Bradley, Kaitlin. The Benefits of Technology in Early Childhood Education, 19 Feb. 2019,

https://www.elbeducation.com/blog/the-benefits-of-technology-in-early-childhood-

education.

“The Benefits of Technology in Early Childhood Education,” by Kaitlin Bradley talks

about the benefits that teachers will see when they implement technology into the classroom. She

talks about incorporating technology alongside traditional activities won’t have a negative effect

on the children, it’ll help. She talks about technology helping to build a community in the

classroom. She says, “technology in early childhood classrooms should support collaborative
learning environments and, therefore, enrich student’s interactions with their peers.” Technology

should be used as a helping tool rather than a different form of the teacher providing the

information. The International Society for Technology in Education (ISTE) believe that children

need technology introduced early on so they develop technology-handling skills.

This article was written to inform people about the technological advances and the

benefits it has in early childhood classrooms. The audience for this article is mostly directed

towards other teachers, especially early childhood teachers. The article was published at the

beginning of 2019, it is very new and still has relevant information. The information she

provided isn’t outdated, and everything she references still applies to education.

The writer of the article, Kaitlin Bradley has taught in the classroom. She has taught

preschool to second grade, she has been teaching for five years. She has been able to see these

advances in technology and how they affect the children first hand. She pulls information from

different organizations and associations that have done research on technology in the classroom.

She backs up her statements with support from these organizations.

This article provides a lot of information from a teacher’s perspective and from a teacher

who deals with younger children. I can use information from ISTE and NAEYC, I can use

information from her section on building a community. I can use the math and literacy skills

section to provide examples of software that can be used.

“How Has Technology Changed Education?” Purdue University Online,

https://online.purdue.edu/blog/how-has-technology-changed-education.

“How Has Technology Changed Education?” from Purdue University talks about the

specific ways technology is changing education. It points out a 14th century illustration by

Laurentius de Voltolina. In the illustration it looks like a typical classroom today, a teacher at the
front, students sitting in rows, looking at books. There are slight differences, like students today

are more likely to be looking at a laptop or smartphone rather than a textbook. The article goes

into how technology has changed education, but not drastically. Technology has made it easy for

teachers to create instructional material, it has broken down the walls of the classroom and

allows students to collaborate outside of the classroom. It also talks about the teacher's role

shifting to more of a guide.

The purpose of this article is to show some of the differences in the classroom since

technology has been introduced in education. It shows the switch that teachers are going through,

they were the main source of information but now they are more of a guide while students are

doing their own work through the internet. This article can give anyone some insight to the way

technology is helping students in the classroom.

This article comes from the online section of Purdue University. The article provides

good information from an institutes point of view on how technology is being implemented and

the effects from technology. It provides a different perspective, it’s similar to a teachers point of

view and can help others understand the positive effects technology can have.

This article has provided me with information that shows the progression of technology,

like in medieval times when books were rare and not a lot of people had information so close.

Now we have any information we want at our fingertips. Students can collaborate with people

anywhere in the world, it isn’t isolated to the same class or school.

Moloney, Anastasia. “Technology Impact on Child Growth & Development.” TheTot

Technology Impact on Child Growth Development Comments,

https://www.thetot.com/baby/the-impact-of-technology-on-behavior/.
Anastasia Moloney, talks about creating a healthy relationship with technology in the

article “Technology Impact on Child Growth & Development.” She talks about technology being

good when used properly and in moderation. She talks about ways to provide a healthy mix of

technology and normal activities. She suggests having kids read for a little bit during the day

without any screen time so they still get other forms of material.

The purpose of this article is to inform parents that technology can be good for childhood

growth, but there should still be interactions that don’t involve technology. This article is

directed towards parents of young children. This article is for parents to understand the impact

technology has on children.

The article is written by Anastasia Moloney, an Early Childhood Development Specialist.

She talks about things shes seen and how children are affected. She talks about studies that have

been done and provides information from them. She explains different ways parents can

implement healthy technology habits for their children.

This article can give me more of a parents perspective on technology and the impact it

has. It can give me ideas of ways to counteract over usage in the classroom and create healthy

habits. It can help me talk about motor skills being used and the environmental factors.

Saylan, Asli. “Using Technology in Education from the Pre-Service Science and Mathematics

Teachers' Perspectives.” International Education Studies, Canadian Center of Science

and Education. 1120 Finch Avenue West Suite 701-309, Toronto, ON M3J 3H7, Canada.

“Using Technology in Education from the Pre-service Science and Mathematics

Teachers’ Perspectives,” by Asli Saylan is an article that focuses on studies and research

conducted on how technology is helping the classroom. It walks through the steps researchers

took and the results they got with the different studies. It talks about the positive and negative

opinions of the participants.

This article is to show teachers views about the use of technology. This can be helpful to

other teachers wanting to see the positive effects of technology, they can view actual studies

done and see the outcomes from them.

The studies were done by faculty from Erciyes University in Turkey. They know a lot

about teachers thoughts and feelings regarding technology in the classroom. They provide a ton

of details from their studies and show the information they based the studies off of.

I can take the information from their studies, and the opinions of teachers. I will include

the positive and negative opinions and explain the different studies.

“‘T’ Is for Technology: Early Childhood Education and the Digital Divide FAQ.” RAND

Corporation, https://www.rand.org/education-and-labor/projects/t-is-for-

technology/faq.html.

“T Is for Technology,’ by RAND Corporation explains how it may be hard for low

income families to provide technology for children. It’s called a “Digital Divide” when there is a

lack of access to information and communication technology among low-income households. It

touches on what educators can do to help reduce the digital divides. Teachers can be well

educated with technology and help children from low income families become familiar with it as

young as ECE. It also talks about how the government is helping to provide technology for low

income families.
The purpose of this article is to inform people on the digital divide and how to help the

children who need access to technology. This is still relevant today, there are still children who

have very little access to technology and need some extra help from different areas. There will

always be ways that children need help with certain technological devices.

RAND Education and Labor wrote the article about digital divides. They work closely

with government agencies and foundations to provide the information in their articles. They are

educators of different sections and provide information based on technology and its impacts.

This article can be used to explain that not everyone has access to technology at home

and having technology in the classroom can be difficult for those children to adapt. I can explain

how teachers and educators can help children get comfortable with technology and how other

family members can step in and provide more information for the child. I can talk about some of

the ways the government is helping implement technology in the classroom and for children in

lower income families.

“The Evolution of Technology in the Classroom.” Purdue University Online,

https://online.purdue.edu/blog/evolution-technology-classroom?qforce=true&.

“The Evolution of Technology in the Classroom,” by Purdue University explains the

advances of technology in a timeline format. It shows when the classroom starts to have more

technological advances and just how fast it has advanced. It talks about how the radio starts a

new wave of learning by allowing students to participate in classes through the radio. It talks

about when social media sites like Myspace, Facebook and Twitter were introduced and how

they started being used in the classroom as a form of discussion. It really breaks down of

enrollment since the start of the technological advances.

The purpose of this article is to show the different steps technology has taken to become

what it is. Technology has helped shape the classroom into what we know now. It shows that

technology has helped increase enrollment rates and they are continuing to grow.

Purdue University wrote “The Evolution of Technology In The Classroom.” Anyone can

read this article and take away information will affect them in different ways. This article really

helps me see how fast technology advanced and how common most of these products are now.

Some of the technology isn;t used the same way it started but you can see how far it went and

how it helped shape the classroom today.

I want to use the timeline to explain why technology is used and how it helps extend

learning to a new level. I want to show that technology has made it easier for people to learn and

have an easy time in the classroom.
