Aryabhatta College
Aryabhatta College is the youngest college of the University of Delhi
and it came into existence from the Academic Year 2014-2015.
The College is within the South Campus of the University of Delhi in
the picturesque surroundings of the South Delhi section of the
Aravali range.

‘Aryabhatta’ – the master who, after reaching the furthest shores

and plumbing the inmost depths of the sea of ultimate
knowledge of mathematics, kinematics and spheres, handed
over the three sciences to the learned world is the inspiration for
the name of the college as we believe that knowledge is power.

Aryabhatta College is a co-educational institution and conducts

Humanities, Sciences and Commerce courses at the undergraduate
level. There are presently around 2500 students on the rolls of the
College. The college offers honours courses in Business Economics,
Economics, Commerce, Political Science, English, and Hindi The
college boasts of a well-equipped computer laboratory, wholly
automated library system and a building aesthetically set on a 5-
acre green campus.

The college has an active dramatic society; an adventure club

concentrating on trekking and mountaineering and a business
economics society, which organizes seminars, workshops and
various activities.
Roister
Roister is an Inter-College Team Building Event. The event is
organized by and for the students of Bachelors of Arts (Honours)
in Business Economics. Aryabhatta College of the University of
Delhi will be hosting the event from 24th-27th January this year. The
event will host students from the ten colleges that offer the Arts
degree in Business Economics.

‘Roister’ as the name suggests is all about painting the town red
and letting oneself loose. It aims at renewing and refreshing the
minds of the students and yet instilling in them the unity and
harmony. True sportspersons support each other, look out for each
other and stand together through difficult times. As the
sportspersons stand together, they become a team, they become
unbreakable and that capacity is what we aim to build out of every
Business Economics student.
Roister would foster the inter-college bond by means of sports to
harbor and evoke camaraderie, team-building attitude and team
spirit amongst all the students in this age of cut-throat competition
and the relentless rat race.

both ‘base lines’, either covering the end circle completely, or
not touching it at all.
 The striker may not touch the diagonal arrow line.

striker must be flicked, not pushed. Carrom man can be struck
directly only if they are not touching the player’s baseline or

baseline, the player must hit the carrom man by rebounding the
carrom striker off the side of the carrom board or any other
carrom piece on the board.
 Sinking the striker costs you one piece and your turn. But if you
sink a piece in the same shot, then two come up and you shoot
again.
 After sinking the striker, you place the due piece(s) within the
center circle. If you have not sunk one yet, you own one.
 If a piece jumps off the board, it is placed on the center spot. If
pieces land on end or are overlapping, they are left that way.

Concise Rules for Events
Chess
For Boys and Girls

1. The team shall consist of 5 players.

 Swiss Style event without any eliminations
 Rounds will vary from 4 - 6 depending on number of players
2. All games will follow a blitz incremental time of 5' + 2" i.e.,
players will start with a base time of 5 minutes and upon
every move an increment of 2 seconds will be added to
their time.
3. Only the players of the game can call attention to a fallen
flag (or time expired) on their clocks. A director/ volunteer
will never initiate a time-forfeit claim.
4. A flag is considered to have fallen only when a fallen flag is
pointed out by either player. If your flag falls and then you play
a move which checkmates your opponent’s king, and then
your opponent points out that your flag has fallen, you have
still won. On the other hand, if your opponent points out that
your flag has fallen before you play the move which
checkmates your opponent, you lose (or draw if your
opponent has insufficient material, see on next page).
Concise Rules for Events
Chess (Continued)
5. If a player claims that both flags are down (while they are
indeed down), prior to a checkmate, the game is drawn
 If your flag falls and your opponent have insufficient material to
win on time, the game is a draw. Insufficient material is when (1)
one’s opponent has only a lone king; (2) One’s opponent has only
king and bishop or king and knight and does not have a forced
win; or when (3) one has no pawns and one’s opponent has only
king and two knights and no forced win.
 If when one goes to promote a pawn to a piece and the
desired piece is not available, the player may stop both
clocks in order to borrow a piece and place it on the board.
 A player who wishes to make a claim of any sort or see a
director/volunteer for any legitimate reason may stop both
sides of the clock before claiming and/or finding a director/
volunteer”
Concise Rules for Events
Chess (Continued)
6.In case of a draw:
 Stalemate — the game is drawn when a player cannot make
any legal moves and yet is not in check.
 Agreement — the game isdrawn when both players agree toa
draw. The proper procedure for offering a draw is; (a)
immediate after making one’s move on the board, (b) say: “I offer
a draw,” and only after making one’s move and
announcing “I offer a draw,” (c) press the button on one’s clock so as
to start your opponent’s clock. After a draw has been
offered, one’s opponent has the option of accepting any time
before his or her next move. One rejects a draw offer simply by
playing one’s next move. To accept a draw which has been
offered, one may stop the clocks and shake hands, thus
signifying the acceptance of the draw offer.
 Triple occurrence of position — the game can be claimed to be
drawn when the same identical position occurs three times.
Only a player on the move may claim a draw by triple
occurrence of position. There are two ways to make such a
claim. If a move is required to complete the third occurrence of
the position, the player claiming the draw should write this move
down on his or her score sheet (without making the move on
the board) and then stop both clocks, and make the claim. If no
move is needed to complete the third occurrence
of the position, the player claiming the draw should stop both
clocks. If the opponent agrees with the claim, the game is
drawn. If the opponent does not agree with the claim, a director
should be called over to make judgment. If the director denies
the claim, the claimant is still obligated to play the move
recorded on his or her score sheet, if one was made.
Concise Rules for Events
Chess (Continued)
 Insufficient material to continue — the game is drawn when one
of the following endings arises: (a) king versus king; (b) king
versus king with bishop or knight; (c) king and bishop versus king
and bishop(when both bishops are on squares of the same color);
or (d) any position where there are no longer any moves that could
lead to any player being checkmated
 Insufficient material to win on time — the game is drawn when a
player exceeds the time limit and yet his or her opponent has
insufficient material to win on time, such as having a lone king, a
king with a bishop or knight, or a king with two knights.
 50-move rule — the game isdrawn when 50 moves have been
made by each side without any capture or pawn move.
 Both flags down in sudden death — the game is drawn in a
sudden death time control if one of the players points out that
both flags are down and they are indeed down
Concise Rules for Events
Chess (Continued)

 If you touch a piece intending to move it, you must move it; if you
touch your opponent’s piece in- tending to capture it, you must
capture it; and if you move a piece from one square to
another and remove your hand from it, you must leave it where it is
— assuming, of course, it is your turn to move and the
move made is legal.
a. If you knock over a piece with the cuff of your sleeve, or
the back of your hand, say “I adjust” (or “j’adoube”) and
restore the piece to its proper position.
b. If it is your turn to move and you wish to adjust a piece on
the board or remove a speck from the board, first say “I
adjust” (or “j’adoube”) and only then adjust the set and
board. But you are only allowed to touch the board and/or
pieces when it is your turn to move.
c. 2 illegal moves per match are allowed to each side ,
whereas on the third the game will be forfeited by the
