III. LESSON PROPER

Teacher’s Activity Student’s Activity
A. Daily Routine

“Please stand and let us pray.”

(One student will lead the prayer.)

Dear Lord,
Thank You for this glorious day. We pray to
You to have our kindness added and sins
subtracted. May You multiply our strength when
we’re weak and have our love divided. In this we
pray, Amen.
“Good afternoon, class.”
“Good afternoon, Ma’am.”
“Before you take your seat, let’s do the MATH
check.”
M- make a greeting to your seatmate by saying
MABUHAY!
A- align your chairs properly
T- take all the messes under your chairs
H- have a big smile on your face and have a seat

“Miss Secretary, are there any absentees for

today? If yes, write their names on one-fourth
sheet of paper then submit it to me after class.” (answer may vary)

B. Priming/Motivation

Class will be divided into 8 groups. Each group

will received the materials that will be needed on
the activity. We will have a quiz bee. Each question
will be flash in the laptop. The first group who will
raise the correct answer will get a point. The group
that will get the highest point will received a pink
ribbon (5 points), the 2nd group to the highest will
get the red ribbon (3 points) and the 3rd group will
received a blue ribbon (1 point). You only have 10
seconds to answer each question.

1. What is the slope of the equation of the

line y = -3x + 8? m = -3
2. What is the equation of the line of the
given points (0, -2) and (1/2, 0)? y
2x − = 1
2

3. What is the equation of the line that

passes through the origin and has the
slope of 5? y = 5x

4. What is y-intercept in the given 4x-y+2=0? b = 2

5. What is the slope of the line -2x + y = -1? m=2

6. For 3 points, what is the slope of the line

given the points (2, -4) and (1, -4)? m=0

C. Activity

“For our next activity, each group will received

an envelope that contains a tasked to be
accomplished. You only have 3 minutes to finish
the task. Your timer starts now.”

Directions: Plot the following points. Connect the

two points.

GROUP 1
1. M (8, 9) and L (7, 3)

GROUP 2
2. A (-2, -1) and K (4, 2)

GROUP 3
3. R (0, 6) and J (-6, 5)

GROUP 4
4. C (-3, 5) and B (0, -10)

GROUP 5
5. O (5, -4) and N (8, 9)

GROUP 6
6. S (-7, 0) and W (-4, 8)

GROUP 7
7. D (0, -8) and X (9, -2)

GROUP 8
8. L (0, 2) and Y (-6, 0)

D. Analysis

1. How do you plot the points on your

Cartesian Plane? By recalling the assigned quadrants for the points.

2. If we connect two points, what we will

form? It will form a straight line.

3. How many points can be used to create a

line? Two points.

4. What do you call the point on the x-axis

where the line passes through? x-intercept

5. What do you call the point on the y-axis

where the line passes through? y-intercept

6. Is it possible to graph a line using the x-

and y- intercept? (answers may vary)

7. How do we get the x- and y- intercept of

the equation of the line? In x-intercept, substitute the value of y to zero and
the y-intercept, substitute the value of x to zero.

E. Abstraction

What is the x- and y-intercept of a line? (a, 0) and (0, b).

For example, given the equation y = 4x + 8, how

will you graph it? Finding the value of x-and y-intercept.

x- intercept
𝑦 = 4𝑥 + 8
0 = 4𝑥 + 8
−4𝑥 = 8
−4𝑥 8
=
−4 −4
𝑥 = −2

y – intercept
𝑦 = 4𝑥 + 8
𝑦 = 4(0) + 8
𝑦=8

(one student will graph the point.

So, our x – intercept is -2 while the y – intercept is

8.

In graphing a linear equation, you must follow

these steps:
1. Find the x-intercept.
2. Find the y-intercept.
3. Graph the x- and y-intercept.
4. Connect point.

Very good, for another example, let’s have 2x – y

= 4. Solve for x and y intercept.
(two student will solve the x – and y – intercept)

x - intercept
2𝑥 − 𝑦 = 4
2𝑥 − 0 = 4
2𝑥 = 4
2𝑥 4
=
2 2
𝑥=2

y – intercept
2𝑥 − 𝑦 = 4
2(0) − 𝑦 = 4
−𝑦 = 4
−1(−𝑦) = 4(−1)
𝑦 = −4

Okay, very well. So, what will be our points?

Our points is (2, 0) and (0, -4).
Can you graph the given points?
(one student will graph the line 2x – y = 4 using the
x – and y – intercept.

Very Good. Now let’s proceed to our next activity.

F. Application

With the same group, graph the following

equations using the x – and y – intercept.

Group 1 and 4
 y = 2x + 2

x – intercept
𝑦 = 2𝑥 + 2
0 = 2𝑥 + 2
−2𝑥 = 2
−2𝑥 2
=
−2 −2
𝑥 = −1

y – intercept
𝑦 = 2𝑥 + 2
𝑦 = 2(0) + 2
𝑦=2

(-1, 0) (0, 2)

Group 2 and 5
 3x = 12 – 6y
x – intercept
3𝑥 = 12 − 6𝑦
3𝑥 = 12 − 6(0)
3𝑥 = 12
3𝑥 12
=
3 3
𝑥=4

y – intercept
3𝑥 = 12 − 6𝑦
3(0) = 12 − 6𝑦
6𝑦 = 12
6𝑦 12
=
6 6
𝑦=2

Therefore, our points is (4, 0) and (0, 2).

Group 3 and 6
 3y = 2x – 6
x- intercept
3𝑦 = 2𝑥 − 6
3(0) = 2𝑥 − 6
−2𝑥 = −6
−2𝑥 −6
=
−2 −2
𝑥=3

y- intercept
3𝑦 = 2𝑥 − 6
3𝑦 = 2(0) − 6
3𝑦 = −6
3𝑦 −6
=
3 3
𝑦 = −2

Group 4 and Group 8

 -4y = 2x - 12 x- intercept
−4𝑦 = 2𝑥 − 12
−4(0) = 2𝑥 − 12
−2𝑥 = −12
−2𝑥 −12
=
−2 −2
𝑥=6

y- intercept
−4𝑦 = 2𝑥 − 12
−4𝑦 = 2(0) − 12
−4𝑦 = 0 − 12
−4𝑦 −12
=
−4 −4
𝑦=3

Therefore, our a = 6 and b = 3.

Are you done? Yes, Ma’am.

IV. ASSESSMENT
